PON Metro. Donations from Milanese people are starting to create crowdfunding projects that improve life in the neighborhoods

Tajani: "With this initiative we urge the city's participation in the Administration's action by directly involving citizens and the territory"

Milan, October 30 2020 – From the climbing wall set up under a bridge in Greco, to the old restaurant that becomes a meeting club for families in the Isola area, passing through a real shared urban vegetable garden in the heart of Niguarda or the first 'repair café' in Barona where citizens can bring objects to be repaired. These are some of the first seven projects, out of a total of 20 selected for the second edition of "Civic Crowdfunding", which launches today as the first Italian crowdfunding and social innovation platform.

The initiative promoted by the Municipality of Milan and carried out in collaboration with Bottom productions and Ginger crowdfunding is aimed at promoting the social and economic development of the city starting from the bottom and directly involving the Milanese and third sector entities in redesigning spaces and services in their neighborhood. The project, entirely financed with PON Metro Milano funds 2014-2020, has a total budget of 550 thousand euros.

If the 20 selected projects reach 40% of their budget thanks to donations from the Milanese, they will be co-financed by the Municipality of Milan for the remaining 60%, up to a maximum of 60 thousand euros.

“Crowdfunding is an extraordinary tool for arousing the protagonism of citizens and involving them in the creation of concrete projects aimed at improving the quality of life of many people in different neighborhoods - explains the councilor for employment policies, productive activities and trade Cristina Tajani –. In this period we are all called to rewrite and live a new sociality made of physical distance which cannot transform into poverty of relationships. And it is precisely on building relationships and solidarity that the ideas we have collected work."

Among the first seven projects to be judged by the Milanese people we find "climBinG - Climbing under the Greco tracks", an initiative which aims to create a free climbing wall accessible to all, which can be a of intergenerational meeting, encouraging a passion for sport and socialization.

"WHITE NURSERY - Accurate contexts for growth and sociality” instead is aimed in particular at children and families who live in the Rogoredo district, proposing concrete responses to the needs of education, sociality and care, including nursery schools and psychotherapy courses.

"The green at the end of the tunnel” is a project born in the heart of Niguarda, where there is a vegetable garden that citizens can cultivate directly and which during the last lockdown contributed, thanks to its products, to helping the people most affected by the crisis, acting as a useful model and tool of social cohesion. From this experience was born the desire to enhance the production capacity of the garden, with the installation of tunnel greenhouses and the introduction of sustainable crops.

"LAB BARONA: collaborate, exchange, share” was born with the aim of creating the first repair café where all citizens can bring objects to be repaired and brought back to life. The repair café will also be a place for meeting and socializing and a point of reference for spreading the culture of recycling and reuse.

"Bring back Victoria. A community that is reborn” is a project focused on music, which involves the neighborhoods of Vittoria, Umbria and Molise with the aim of organizing 8 musical and clowning workshops aimed at all the inhabitants.

With "We give space to families” in the Isola district, an abandoned restaurant can be transformed into a club and meeting place for families, where parents can also work alongside their children: in fact, a coworking space will be set up inside the restaurant.

Finally with “Giovannino Wanderer, goes to the Library” we want to create a creative theatrical installation, based on the poetics of Gianni Rodari which will be activated free of charge for 20 days in 13 neighborhood libraries in the city.

To help the selected organizations achieve successful fundraising, the Municipality offered all the selected projects an online training course and a support service provided by Ginger crowdfunding, as well as communication interventions to increase the visibility of the proposals presented on the platform.

Fundraising campaigns for the other 2021 projects selected as part of Civic Crowdfunding will also start between the end of January and the beginning of February 13.
