Local police. The neighborhood police service resumes

Milan, July 1 2020 - The neighborhood police service restarted today in all the municipalities of the city. There are 197 officers dedicated to street service, in addition to the 32 coordination support, who will patrol a larger territory, dedicating particular attention and slow patrolling, on foot, to the neighborhoods that the municipal presidents have deemed most sensitive.

“The restart of the service brings with it a new method of supervision – comments the deputy mayor and councilor for Security Anna Scavuzzo –, which arises from the excellent experimentation carried out in Municipality 6 and which will make the presence of the neighborhood police more visible for citizens. We thank the decentralized commands and the municipalities for the work done which allowed the evaluation and sharing of the choice of the so-called 'hotspots' and the locations in which to position the mobile office units”.

The device includes a fixed mobile unit, which will alternate on two stations, and six patrols dedicated to three macro-areas for each municipality which, divided into morning and afternoon shifts, will patrol the entire territory with continuous passages and then stop in some locations identified because they are more sensitive, where they will continue with a foot patrol and will speak with citizens and traders to collect reports.

As regards the mobile units, among the points identified are Largo La Foppa and Largo Crocetta, Via Padova/Via Mosso and Iraqi Martyrs of Freedom Park, Via Rizzoli and Piazza Gobetti, Piazzale Ferrara and Piazzale Gabrio Rosa, Viale Montegani/Via Neera and via Baroni, piazzale delle Milizie, piazza Tirana and via di Rudinì, piazzale Selinunte and via Quarti, Bonola and piazza Prealpi, piazzale Maciachini and via Comasina.

However, there are around 60 'hotspots' indicated by the municipalities for the foot patrols that the patrols will carry out throughout the week. Among the locations, the Arch of Peace, the Columns of San Lorenzo, Piazza Carbonari, Via Adriano, Quartiere Feltre, Benedetto Marcello, Piazzale Cuoco, Via Salomone, Quartiere Sant'Ambrogio, Via Inganni, Quarto Cagnino, Figino, Piazzale Istria, Piazzale Segrino. As the municipalities complete sending the information, it will be possible to have a complete map of all the city's 'hotspots', which can then be modified at the end of the summer period.
