Non-compliant transfers of accounts and bicycles. The results of the service carried out last night together with the Carabinieri with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office

Milan, August 5 2022 – Five account transfers, two seizures of pedal-assisted bicycles found to be non-compliant, one person subjected to investigations because he was undocumented and a series of violations of the Highway Code.

These are the results of the checks focused on riders carried out yesterday evening in the Porta Genova area by the local police of Milan together with the Carabinieri of the Work Inspectorate Unit, under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office, with the aim of protecting workplace safety and regularity of working relationships.

The service made it possible to identify and sanction non-compliant electric bicycles and irregularities in employment relationships.

In particular, there were five disputes, which will be followed by investigations, for the transfer of accounts; two seizures of pedal-assisted bicycles were found to be non-compliant, while one person was subjected to photo identification because he had no documents.

With reference to the two pedal-assisted bicycles found to be different, therefore considered by the regulations as mopeds, the respective drivers were charged with the relevant violations: failure to issue the circulation certificate; lack of insurance coverage; lack of mandatory devices; circulation without the mandatory helmet; and in one case, driving without a license.

Those carried out last night in the Porta Genova area are interventions that are part of a broader action by the local police on the topic of work, always carried out in collaboration with the competent institutions.

For road safety, pedal-assisted bicycles are routinely checked. If they differ from the characteristics required by the regulations, for example if the electric motor is not only auxiliary to pedaling but works independently, they are considered to all intents and purposes mopeds.

In the first six months of 2022, the local police checked more than 300 suspicious bikes, detecting around a hundred irregularities. To protect road traffic safety and compliance with labor regulations, checks will continue with greater frequency, always under the coordination of the judicial authority and together with the NIL Carabinieri.
