Local police. Quarantine checks continue: over 26 thousand telephone contacts in one year
Milan, September 27 2021 - The checks of people subjected to isolation because they are positive for Covid-19 by the local police continue: from the beginning of the pandemic to today there have been 26.400 telephone contacts to verify that people respected the quarantine and 7.500 home checks, which resulted 70 referrals to the judicial authorities. Furthermore, in several cases, local police officers intervened directly in moments of difficulty to provide assistance.
Between the end of August and the first half of the month, for example, thanks to contact with local police officers it was possible to provide help to two people.
In the first case, a very difficult situation emerged from the interview with a citizen: the woman had no food at home and did not know how to get it for herself and her son. The agents immediately started contact with "Milano Help", and then personally, while waiting for the activation of the service, to bring them the basic necessities for the first few days.
In mid-September, however, thanks to a phone call to a 70-year-old citizen, in home quarantine due to being Covid positive, the agent who had contacted him discovered that he had low blood saturation and breathing difficulties. At first, however, the man had not wanted 118 to be called, despite the agent's insistence, saying that he was in contact with his doctor and that his wife was still present in the house with him.
Concerned by the situation encountered on the phone, the officer therefore decided to contact the man again the following day, to check that he was well and did not need help. However, neither the man nor his wife had answered the phone and so it was decided to send a patrol urgently.
After numerous attempts, the man finally answered the intercom, saying he was in serious breathing difficulties. The officers therefore immediately requested the dispatch of an ambulance: the medical staff, once having ascertained the actual critical condition of the man, arranged for his immediate transport to San Paolo.
