Milan, March 28 2021 - He had used cars for sale with a declared mileage significantly lower than the actual one. For this reason, the owner of a resale in Viale Misurata was reported for attempted fraud in the exercise of trade, from whom a total of 11 cars were seized: two criminally and nine administratively, as they were left parked on the road without insurance coverage.

The Anti-illegality Unit of the local Police intervened on 22 March following several reports from a car dealer held responsible for fraudulently deducting the kilometers of used cars offered for sale and for using the parking spaces marked out by the blue lines to park the cars.

Having ascertained the presence of nine cars left parked on the road, registered in the dealer's name and without regular insurance coverage, the officers proceeded with their administrative seizure.

Further investigations also revealed that two of the vehicles for sale had been tampered with. The mileages resulting from the previous periodic inspections, in fact, were completely inconsistent with the distances ascertained on the odometer and declared on the sales advertisements in the shop window.

The advertisement posted in the window for the sale of one of the two criminally seized cars declared a mileage of 150.000 km, a figure also confirmed on the odometer itself, but the vehicle appeared to have a much higher mileage in previous inspections: 211.834 kilometers were certified in the the latest, dating back to 2015.

“In addition to defrauding potential buyers, there is also an issue linked to the safety of those who find themselves driving these vehicles as well as road users - comments the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Safety Anna Scavuzzo -. The vehicles sold with this tampering, in fact, would not be subjected to the coupons relating to the actual mileage in the right time and therefore their maintenance or the replacement of worn parts would not be carried out correctly. A vehicle on the road with worn and unreplaced parts can be extremely dangerous."
