Local police. New agents and officers, selections closed. 120 hires in July

After budget approval, hiring and training in the classroom and in the field

Milan, May 13 2022 – Once the competition rankings have been published, the first 2022 new officers and 30 agents of the local police of Milan will be hired between the end of June and July 90.

This is the outcome of the selection processes launched between last November and January, which after the written, oral and physical tests allowed, in just a few months, two rankings to be formed, the first of 166 officers and the second of 261 agents.

The Administration will also draw from these rankings for subsequent hiring; in fact, it is expected that in November this year another 120 agents will be hired also on the basis of agreements with the unions and in 2023 another 30 officers. A further 2023 new agents will be hired in 260 through a new competition that will be announced this year.

We remind you that the Administration has planned to hire a total of 900 policemen, including agents and officers, by the end of the mandate. In this way, in addition to replenishing all annual expenditure, the staff of the local police in Milan will grow by 500 units, going from the current 2.818 resources to 3.350 by April 2025, a historic maximum never reached previously.

The hiring process is taking place in a very short timeframe, thanks to a notable commitment from the Human Resources sector and the local police, with the activation of a competition and selection procedure which normally requires months of preparation. This is a great management effort on the part of the Administration which allows it to respect a promise and respond to a need of the city.

With the strengthening of the local police force it will be possible to have more patrols on the streets, even in the evening and at night, more services adapted to needs, have more capacity to be present in the area, in the neighborhoods and wherever needed and to do it in the best possible way. An ever better organization of the police, more technology combined with adequate training will make it possible to manage the services better and give the right protection to those who work in the field and, as demonstrated by the registry of people in the ranking, lower the average age of the agents.

21 people registered for the agent competition held on 2.156 January, 1.553 men and 603 women, and 220 men and 41 women were selected; the 18-39 age group represents 88% of those eligible (232 people) and, in even more detail, the 18-29 age group represents 55% (208) of the total people present in the agent ranking, while 38 people are between 40 and 49 years old and only 7 are over 50 years old.

For agents and officers, after the suitability medical examinations, there will be hiring and the training course will begin (three months for agents and two for officers) with activities in the classroom and in the field followed by entry into service in a operational accompaniment context, working with more experienced agents and officers to learn even on the street how to best carry out their tasks, and coordinated as much as possible by officers, operations centre, specialist groups.
