Local police. They harassed traders, residents and passers-by: repatriated to Romania

Milan, March 10 2021 – Four homeless people who used to stay in Piazza Santo Stefano have been repatriated to Romania. The operation was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the agents of the Duomo Unit of the decentralized Command 1 of the local police and the 2nd anti-crime division of the Milan Police Headquarters.

“This result was not a given and we thank the agents of the Duomo Unit who carried out this operation - declare the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo and the local police commander Marco Ciacci - with great attention and perseverance. A year of observations, collection of testimonies, complaints about the many - too many - episodes of harassment and aggression reported by traders and residents of the area. In this way it was possible to put together all the elements necessary to arrive at the expulsion order. The collaboration of the Milan Police Headquarters was also fundamental, and we thank them for supporting us from the beginning."

The men - 47-year-old SM, 29-year-old VV, 45-year-old SM and 35-year-old LC - had been reported several times by traders, residents and passers-by for harassing behavior, theft and vandalism. All four had different criminal records.

Numerous checks carried out by local police officers highlighted the impossibility of peaceful coexistence and initially led to expulsion orders being issued. Subsequently, with the recurrence of attacks and harassment, Daspo Urbani were issued for 12 months by the Police Commissioner, measures which concerned around ten people who often wandered around the area, including the four subjects in question who, having more having repeatedly violated the provisions and repeated aggressive, harassing and violent behaviour, they have been referred to the judicial authorities several times.

Thanks to the close collaboration with the 2nd anti-crime division of the Milan Police Headquarters, the four were then definitively stopped on the morning of March 3 and, after the validation of the expulsion order from Italian territory, they were embarked on March 5 by air carrier for be brought back to Romania.
