Local police. Tampering with parking meters and defrauding motorists, two complaints from the Public Transport Protection Unit

Since the beginning of the year, over 7 thousand checks have been carried out to prevent and repress the activity of illegal parkers and tampering with parking meters. Over 46 thousand those on the subway and on surface lines

Milan, August 22 2020 – As part of a service to prevent and repress the activity of illegal parkers and tampering with parking meters – born from the verification of the blocking of some parking meters between Via Larga, Via Albricci, Via Pantano and Corso di Porta Romana –, the agents of the Public Transport Protection Unit of the local police viewed the images recorded by the video surveillance cameras and activated a specific patrol in the area, which allowed them to identify a 49-year-old Italian man (EC), and block him just as he was trying to tamper with another parking meter using metal blades.

This type of activity carried out by the Unit allowed, between January and February and between July and August, to ascertain 127 tamperings, report 39 illegal parkers and issue 17 administrative sanctions. There have been almost 7 thousand checks during these months.

The second intervention ended on 18 August with the tracing of a 34-year-old Italian man (PA) who, in June, had simulated an investment. During ordinary checks on line 90/91, thanks to the report of a citizen who had witnessed the scam against a motorist, the Unit managed to contact the victim and, following investigations, to identify the scammer who was found to be being the same one already suspected of numerous other similar episodes. The man is now under investigation in a state of freedom.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been 11.400 NTTP checks on underground and surface transport lines and stations. Added to which are over 35 thousand checks to verify the provisions for the containment of Coronavirus carried out during the so-called 'Phase 1'.
