Milan, June 11 2020 - The activities of the neighborhood police resume after the break imposed by the confinement. The device returns to action with some new features and extends to cover larger territories.
There are 197 dedicated agents and 32 support agents for coordination, the supply of vehicles is increased, the stations and possible movements of all the mobile garrisons already active are being checked, one for each municipality, and the presidents will indicate the points where the officers will proceed with a slow patrol, on foot, throughout the week.
“On the basis of the excellent results obtained from the experimentation in Municipality 6 - comments the deputy mayor and councilor for Security Anna Scavuzzo -, today we present to the Municipality Presidents the organizational innovations that we will make operational starting from 1 July. We want neighborhood police who are even more visible and in contact with citizens, capable of collecting reports from neighborhoods and intervening promptly. In the first 2 years of activity we concentrated resources in limited areas, while now we are bringing attention to the entire territory of the municipality and are also starting a further experiment that is close to our hearts: in Municipality 1 there will be agents with electric scooters on cycle paths that are not in its own headquarters and on some particular axes, such as Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Via Dante. Bicycle patrolling of the parks is also maintained and we want to find resources to invest in sustainable mobility."
During the testing of the new device at the beginning of the year, in Municipality 6 the results were important: compared to the same observation period (November-January) the number of operating crews increased (+63), the interventions carried out (+2018), the number of investigations (+1321) and the intervention index, i.e. the average number of activities completed by each crew (going from 12,2 to 16,6, with a +4,4).
Each Municipality President will agree with their decentralized Command, by 27 June, a number between 5 and 7 hotspots, for the weekly passage of the neighborhood police on foot, and will verify the positioning of the mobile garrisons already in operation.
