Scavuzzo: “Engage with law enforcement agencies in compliance with the rules. No fury towards young people but responsibility is needed from everyone"

Milan, October 9 2020 – To ensure compliance with the anti-Covid regulations, the local police have strengthened controls in the most frequented areas in the evening and night hours, involving (in addition to the ordinary emergency crews) 10 operational patrols in the area starting from the areas of the Colonne di San Lorenzo, Brera, Corso Como/Corso Garibaldi.

“The local police – explains the deputy mayor and councilor for security Anna Scavuzzo – has been carrying out a constant control activity in the area for months, in collaboration with the police, to ensure compliance with the anti-Covid regulations. Greater attention was paid yesterday evening to the areas of the so-called 'nightlife' where, unfortunately, several violations were found. There is no fury against younger people, but the data on infections tell us that this is not the time to let our guard down. Great attention and responsibility is needed from everyone."

Following the checks, yesterday evening, 18 violations were reported for failure to use a mask outdoors and 3 violations inside the same number of premises due to lack of a mask.

The local police also verified compliance with distancing in public establishments, contesting a violation for tables that were too close together in a restaurant on Corso Garibaldi and issuing 2 fines for increased occupation of the space granted according to the COSAP regulation.

In via Melzo, local police officers proceeded to immediately close a bar for 5 days, after having noticed gatherings inside. A restaurant in Corso Garibaldi was also closed for 5 days, where the agents notified an order from the prefecture.
