Milan, January 19 2022 - The Municipality of Milan has decided to start a process of new hiring in the local police force which concerns agents and officers. Thanks to these new hires, and the subsequent ones necessary to replenish the annual outgoings, the current staff of 2.818 resources will increase to 3.350 police officers by April 2025, an all-time high never previously reached.

The hiring of agents takes place through selection notices, the first of which is published on the Municipality's website https://servizi.comune.milano.it/web/guest/dettaglio-contenuto/-/asset_publisher/pqxq/content/c1_apl_c2021_5_posti

The rankings of the tenders will allow the strengthening of the Local Police of Milan, allowing the hiring of 240 new policemen by November 2022 and another 260 by November 2023.

Among the new 500 policemen, in addition to the agents, there will also be 60 officers. In fact, the competition notice for officers was published last November 16th and the written tests are scheduled for January 21st.

"We want to respond to the needs of the city and guarantee safety and liveability - declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Security -. It was a commitment of the program and in the first 100 days of government we implemented it. Strengthening the local police force allows us to have more patrols on the streets , even in the evening and at night, more services suited to needs. We must have more capacity to be in the area, in the neighborhoods and wherever needed, and do it in the best possible way, and the five hundred hires are going in this direction. They will allow us to implement services organized and with the right protections for those who work in the field and to lower the average age of the officers. I also hope to see the female contingent currently attested to a third of the entire local police grow. We will also achieve our objectives with organizational improvements, strengthening technological, adequate training. Thanks to the first notice published we will be able to create the ranking of the first hires".

"These hirings represent a great job opportunity for those from all over Italy who decide to participate but above all for the city - declares the councilor for Economic Development and Labor Policies Alessia Cappello -. Thanks to the commitment of the human resources sector, we we have taken on the responsibility and the burden of acting very quickly, activating a competition procedure which normally requires months of preparation. This is a great management and economic effort on the part of the Administration thanks to which we will give immediate answers and no longer extendable to citizens. I would like to underline that these hirings do not preclude the strengthening of staff in other sectors of the Municipality of Milan but constitute an extraordinary allocation".

Among the novelties of this recruitment process, in addition to the large number of agents and officers that will be introduced into the local police force in such a short time, also the elimination of age limits thanks to a modification of the Regulation on the organization of offices and services of the Municipality of Milan and the introduction of a physical efficiency test in the candidate selection procedure (running, high jump, pull-ups and push-ups), important for identifying people suitable for street services and the particular functions they must carry out agents on duty even at night.

The call expires on 21 February 2022 and, like those that will follow it, includes a pre-selection test, physical efficiency tests, written test, oral tests: the ranking that will be formed following the selections will allow 240 hires in 2022. For May and June suitability medical examinations are scheduled and for July the hiring of the first 90 student agents who will have to participate in a three-month training course, i.e. 370 hours, with classroom and field activities and final evaluation tests followed by entry on duty in an operational accompaniment context, working with more experienced agents and officers to learn even on the street how to best carry out their task, and coordinated as much as possible by officers, operations centre, specialist groups.
