Milan, June 5 2021 - The Municipality of Milan, which has always been committed against human trafficking and for the affirmation of civil rights, participates in the national public notice of the Equal Opportunities Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers as a proposing body to continue the action of prevention and contrast and to offer a complex and integrated network of services and interventions in favor of victims, generally exploited for sexual or work purposes, to be employed in illegal economies or for begging.

The project proposal bears the title "Drives and landings 2021: areas of freedom and rights for victims of trafficking and exploitation in the territorial areas of Como, Milan, Monza Brianza, Sondrio and Varese" (as regards Milan the area is the metropolitan city ) and articulates the areas of intervention which, together with partner institutions and service providers, will be addressed: emergence of the phenomenon, through mobile units and help desks; initial assistance, through residential reception in dedicated structures and social care; second reception, which includes training courses, social integration, internships and job placements; coordination, monitoring and legal assistance activities.

Starting from the early 5s, the Municipality of Milan has implemented projects, under its own ownership, first on its territory and subsequently on the area of ​​the entire metropolitan city, for the reception, protection and management of social inclusion paths for victims. of trafficking, intercepting around XNUMX thousand people.

Participation in the tender also follows the recent presentation, by the Lombard Prefectures and the DDA responsible for the crime of trafficking, of an operational protocol on the topic valid for the whole of Lombardy, functional to systematising information, contacts and reports for a multidisciplinary approach and to harmonize and coordinate the procedures for taking care of victims among all the institutional bodies involved.

“The project - explains the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti - renews and strengthens the Administration's will to intervene on this new form of slavery and violence. Signing the Protocol says that it is necessary to proceed together, systematize the information, coordinate the various interventions and in particular support training courses that allow us to join forces starting from the languages, methodologies and different skills that the many public entities and the private social sector, in their different roles, are today capable of providing service".

The project that will be presented, valid for 15 months starting next July, will have a total value of 2,357 million, in which the Municipality participates with approximately 415 thousand euros.
