Social policies. The fourth edition of Fermati Otello cup against gender violence returns on October 5th

Milan, October 4 2019 - The Fermati Otello cup, the men's and women's five-a-side football tournament against gender violence, is back for its fourth edition. The initiative, promoted by the Fermati Otello association and by Municipality 5, will be held tomorrow, starting at 3 pm, at the Cimiano sports center in via Don Calabria 16 with the aim of raising awareness among the greatest number of people against violence against women.

On the field, 16 teams representing institutions, law enforcement agencies and associations will compete, including representatives of the Fire Brigade, Local Police, Lombardy Region, Municipality 3, Padri Somaschi, UISP Milan, MM, Gruppo Cap, Lombardy Region for the men's competition and the Regional Council, Cap Group, "Bimbe nel balloon" team and Fermati Otello association for the women's competition.

On the occasion of this fourth edition, the Fermati Otello cup becomes plastic free: thanks to the collaboration with Gruppo CAP and MM, water bottles will be distributed free of charge to all players.

“An excellent initiative – declares the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti – to raise awareness against violence and gender discrimination, to support the voluntary associations that deal with it on a daily basis and to contribute to overcoming the prejudices that still today they also afflict the world of sport, particularly football. A fun way to reflect on a topic that too often has dramatic implications."

“It will be an opportunity to raise awareness on the topic and to remember that even today many women find it difficult to approach the world of sport and pursue their passion – explains Francesca Savoldini, President of the Fermati Otello association –. We saw the women's football world cup this summer which generated so much passion and enthusiasm. Many steps forward have been made, but there are many more to do."

The tournament was organized thanks to the support of the National Amateur League and the Italian Referees Association and with the sponsorship of Uisp, the Italian Union of Sport for All.
