Social policies. The appeal was rejected, the provision of shopping vouchers for 12 thousand families began

Rabaiotti: “Very satisfied, the sentence recognizes the great work done by the Administration to include as many people as possible. Now on with the contributions"

Milan, May 26 2021 - Food shopping vouchers, the Court of Milan rejected the appeal brought by the Naga Association, not recognizing any discriminatory nature of the municipal resolutions launching the tenders for their assignment.

It is therefore online on the institutional website, which can be consulted at link, the definitive ranking of beneficiaries, and the Municipality can proceed with the provision of vouchers aimed at people in need and in particular those affected by the socio-health crisis due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

These are contributions of 300 euros in the case of families made up of a maximum of three people, or 700 euros if larger. They will be paid out, as has already happened with previous similar tenders, via prepaid card, in this case provided by Postepay di Poste, or via smartphone application, provided by Gruppo Pellegrini, at the beneficiary's choice.

The applications accepted and eligible for funding, collected through the public tender opened between February and March, are over 12 thousand. All beneficiaries will be contacted shortly by the Administration, in order to receive useful information on the procedures necessary to receive the contribution. If new resources become available, the Administration will proceed to finance other applications.

“We are very satisfied - the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti intervenes -. First of all, because we can finally proceed with the distribution of the vouchers, and also because the sentence recognizes the great work carried out by the Administration in this difficult year, both in terms of the number of families reached and on the correctness of the strategy that guided us, diversifying the tools and areas of need and seeking maximum inclusion. Thanks also to the dialogue, which has never been lacking, with the Third Sector, we are evaluating how to further extend the food and social aid intervention front".

During 2020, through an initial tender whose terms were subsequently reopened, a total of approximately 21.200 shopping vouchers were distributed. Now the new tranche, which can count on a budget of 5,879 million, is part of the national fund for food aid established as a measure to combat the health emergency. The total amount of the share attributed to the Municipality of Milan, as provided for by the legislative decree of 23 November, was 7,279 million: of these, 1,4 million were allocated to the new food aid scheme, based on the provision of contributions to third sector bodies for the purchase and distribution of food to the weakest sections of the population.

The first food aid scheme was activated last year alongside the calls for shopping vouchers, as a complementary operation intended for all people in serious difficulty without residence or other restrictions, from mid-March to the end of June, coordinated by Food Policy office within Milan Help: through its ten temporary hubs, over 616 tons of food were distributed, i.e. an equivalent of 1 million and 600 thousand meals, which reached 6 thousand families, and another 76 tons of food , for 152 thousand equivalent meals, distributed through stable neighborhood hubs.
