Social policies. Social cohesion projects in six neighbourhoods, 400 thousand euros in contributions from the Municipality

Milan, June 30 2019 – The Council has approved the guidelines for the disbursement of 400 thousand euros in contributions to Third Sector associations and bodies that implement projects to promote social cohesion in neighborhoods in the period October 2019-September 2021.
The proposals must concern six neighbourhoods, focusing exclusively on one of them: Corvetto, Barona, Selinunte, Comasina, Parco Lambro Cimiano and Quarto Oggiaro.

“We are committed – declares the councilor for social policies Pierfrancesco Majorino – to promoting social cohesion in the neighbourhoods, especially in those outside the Bastioni circle. Since 2012 we have invested resources for the implementation of 12 multi-year territorial projects aimed at developing support and solidarity networks and community bonds which have involved over 5 thousand people in the city. We intend to continue on this path to ensure that all citizens feel involved in the life of their city and their neighborhood."
The planned activities must be carried out within specific themes:
•    social cohesion with a cultural and aggregative focus, with priority for conditions of hardship and loneliness and for the development of urban and environmental recovery actions;
•    promotion of sport and active lifestyles;
•    playful-cultural-recreational proposals aimed at encouraging meeting opportunities between neighbors (shows, music or cinema in the courtyards);
•    promotion of a sense of belonging, community bonds and development of territorial networks;
•    involvement of the most fragile and vulnerable sections of the population developed in the areas most affected by commercial desertification;
•    enhancement of the environment as a driver of economic development and activation of opportunities for social inclusion with actions aimed at creating solidarity networks;
•    projects that address the issue of social hardship resulting from loneliness and isolation, economic and physical mobility difficulties, ethnic-cultural differences.

The requirements for participation include an experience of no less than 12 months in activities in the city context in the field of social cohesion and it is necessary that the proposed projects intervene on typical problems of the chosen neighborhood. The initiatives must have a duration of 24 months and can be financed up to 90% of the total value.
