Social policies. The conference on the Basaglia law will be held on 15 October in the Alessi Hall

Milan, October 11 2019 – Tuesday 15 October, starting from 9 am, will be held in the Sala Alessi Palazzo Marino, the conference “The eternal unfinished. Reflections on Law 180 and its surroundings", organized by the Milano Progressista council group and the "Amici della mente ONLUS" association to discuss the direction taken in Italy after the closure of mental hospitals which occurred with the so-called Basaglia law.

The subject of discussion during the day was the need for cultural change to be accompanied by an acceleration in the institutional policies of legislative and economic measures that give substance to the development of a psychiatry that truly interprets Basaglia's thought. The proposal to dedicate a place in the city of Milan to this important figure of national and international psychiatry fits into this context. We will also address the role of the State in this area and the management of public resources, which are often not sufficient to adequately support the families of those suffering from mental distress.

The conference will open with greetings from the president of the municipal council Lamberto Bertolé, the president of Amici della mente ONLUS Gabriele Catania, a member of the non-profit organization and the municipal councilor Natascia Tosoni.

From 10am to 12pm there will be a panel entitled "Law 30 - It can be done -" and from 180pm to 13pm we will talk about "Mental health in Lombardy: open questions". The councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti, the city councilor Anita Pirovano and the regional councilor for Welfare Giulio Gallera will also take part in this last panel. Finally, from 30pm to 16pm we will talk about "Possible things: Law 16 and recovery".
