Social policies. Assistance and entertainment, the plan for the elderly in the city of August

Reservations start on July 26th. Rabaiotti: “In addition to the services, the initiatives of the Sociality Plan are resumed. Thanks to all the operators and presidents of the senior centers who have never stopped working"

Milan, July 22 2021 - Trips to discover the hidden corners of Milan and outside the city, in Boario and Gerola in the province of Sondrio, guided tours and nature trails in the city parks, botanical walks, navigation on the Navigli, days in the swimming pool, entrances to the cinema both outdoors and indoors, pizza parties with friends and mid-August lunches.
There is a rich menu of activities that the Municipality, through the traditional 'Sociality Plan', offers for the month of August to its most vulnerable citizens and especially to the elderly who, particularly in this period, are more alone and may find themselves in difficulty.
The proposed activities will start on August 3rd and will continue throughout the month; to obtain information and take part it is necessary to call the Municipality contact center on 020202 (active from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 20pm) starting from next Monday, 26 July. Through the operators, an appointment will be made for an initial orientation interview and to book your presence at the chosen activities, which must follow precise indications and health safety protocols.
For all requests for help, the 'Anti-heat/anti-loneliness plan' is active until 31 August, which extends the assistance interventions for the elderly, frail and disabled people already provided throughout the year also to that age group. citizens who during the summer, thanks to the heat and the absence of family members, carers and neighbors, may find themselves in difficulty. Through 020202 it is in fact possible to request home delivery of meals, shopping and medicines, help with personal hygiene and cleaning the house, or for carrying out small procedures and maintenance. All requests are evaluated by professional social workers who, taking into account the access criteria, will proceed with the activation of the service.

Over the last month, from mid-June to today, a total of over 830 services have been provided: for the most part (around 500) these are home meal deliveries, followed by help with personal hygiene (around 150), in household chores (about a hundred) and in relational support (about sixty).
In the event of heat waves, particularly fragile people are contacted directly by the administrative staff even on weekends and holidays.
In the meantime, some of the 30 socio-recreational centers for the elderly, providing social services, support and entertainment to combat the loneliness of those who remain in the city, have reopened their doors since July XNUMXst as required by state and regional health regulations. Other Centers are preparing to reopen shortly, and still others are planning the resumption of initiatives for the month of September.
They offer their members various recreational activities, games, snacks, gymnastics, music, English courses and social lunches.
“The activities for our elderly are restarting with attention and caution, in particular for those who remain alone in the city in the summer - intervenes the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti -. Alongside the services, which are always active, the entertainment and aggregation initiatives also resume, much appreciated and even more important this year. I thank the operators who will guarantee services during the month of August as well as all the presidents and directors of the Senior Centers who have invented new ways to not abandon members and keep contacts alive even in the most difficult months".
