Social policies. In Milan 214 confiscated assets assignable to the Municipality and Third Sector

Milan, November 19 2019 – There are 214 properties located in Milan and confiscated from organized crime currently under management by the National Agency for the administration and destination of assets seized and confiscated from organized crime (Anbsc) and potentially assignable in the coming years. In fact, if the confiscation is confirmed, the Agency will propose them for assignment to the State Property Office, to local authorities and to the main Third Sector entities in local meetings in which all stakeholders will be able to participate.

In total, there are 2.432 assets confiscated in Milan and managed by the Agency. Of these, 214 are real estate, 637 are financial assets, 1.446 are movable assets and 135 are companies.

“The confiscated assets – declares the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti – are not only symbols of a victory of the State over the mafia, but must also become concrete safeguards in the territory that can represent places of sociality and meeting for citizens. For this reason it makes a lot of sense that they are entrusted to local authorities and third sector associations for this purpose. The Municipality already manages hundreds of them and is ready to increase this number if this means spreading innovative projects in the neighborhoods that involve citizens and within which projects, events and initiatives are built that help spread the culture of legality".

From 2012 to today, 201 confiscated properties have been transferred to the assets of the Municipality of Milan. Of these, 82% are intended for social residential purposes or linked to serious marginalisation. In particular, 139 spaces have been granted free use for social purposes.
