Youth policies. A hostel in the Steam Factory, the exploratory investigation begins
Milan, 29 December 2019 – You have until January 13th to send expressions of interest to create a youth hostel on the second floor of the Liberty building of the Fabbrica del Vapore, conceived as a 'guesthouse' and used over the years as a place of hospitality for artistic residencies promoted by space concessionaires.
“Fabbrica del Vapore presents itself today as a creative and recreational laboratory – comments the deputy mayor with responsibility for youth policies Anna Scavuzzo –. A place to experiment with new forms of production in the field of performing, visual, audiovisual and multimedia arts, which we believe must now make a further leap in quality to be increasingly recognized as a point of reference not only by the Milanese, but also by those who reach Milan from other Italian or foreign cities. Hence the idea of starting the exploratory investigation, on the basis of which we will make decisions for the future relaunch of Fabbrica".
The Municipality of Milan has therefore decided to open a public notice of preliminary market consultation to welcome proposals for technical and management solutions from public and private entities to create a stable non-hotel hospitality venue, which pays particular attention to the cultural and educational purposes that can be developed within the broader Factory project.
The proposal that will arrive through this investigation - which is in no way binding for the Municipality of Milan and which does not give any right of pre-emption for a possible subsequent tender for the assignment of spaces - must contain indications relating to the management profile (reservation activities, reception, overnight stay, provision of breakfast, promotion at national and international level, training and updating of staff, activation of an information service on tourist offers, shows, exhibitions, historical-artistic and food and wine itineraries) and the integration of hospitality activity with the 'Spaces for talent' project and with the Municipality's plans to support youth creativity, through the creation of artistic residencies and training projects in the field of the arts. The proposal must also contain a preliminary business plan and the definition of a reliable timetable.
