Housing policies. A student residence, workshops and activities for the neighborhood, the future of Ponte Lambro is approaching

Milan, September 27 2021 – Completion of works, construction of a university residence, workshops for activities aimed at the world of business, start-ups and job placement, as well as activities for guests and for the entire neighborhood of a cultural, social and sporting nature. The municipal administration has managed to find the solution for the future of the building designed by architect Renzo Piano and never completed in via Ucelli di Nemi in Ponte Lambro, after years of forced disuse.

With a resolution that gives the green light to the technical and economic feasibility project for the purpose of inclusion in the Three-Year Program of Public Works, the Municipality decides to entrust the property under concession for a period of 30 years, through a public tender, because become a student residence serving Milanese universities.

The tender, which will be published shortly, will be built on the basis of the Project financing proposal presented by the ATI formed by GE CITY srl Social enterprise, Schiavi spa, Energy System srl and Energy Wave SpA, considered by the Administration to be of public interest for the its value of service to the city.

The proposal involves the completion of the works and the construction of a university residence with 190 beds, divided between double and single rooms, laboratories for activities aimed at the world of business, start-ups and job placement and also, at its internal, activities for the guests of the residence and for the entire neighborhood of a cultural, social and sporting nature. The structure will be intended, for the part of housing services, conceived as social housing, mainly for off-site students, Italian and international. There will also be a space dedicated to the social concierge serving the neighborhood.

The complex, which is located in via Ucelli di Nemi at numbers 23, 24, 25 and 26, is owned by the municipality and consists of two buildings with six floors above ground. On the ground floor there are accesses to the stairwells and cellars. They were initially intended as a "Neighbourhood Laboratory", with a series of services which, over time, have been called into question. The "laboratory" was indicated as a distinctive element with respect to the objectives of revitalization and regeneration of the area through the implementation of the "Ponte Lambro neighborhood contract: Moving Ponte Lambro". The creation of the laboratory began in November 2011, but the works they were interrupted in January 2015 following the termination, due to serious non-compliance, of the contract with the contractor.

The Administration then started, during 2017/2018, the procedures for identifying the most suitable tool for completing the intervention, to guarantee the completion of the works and management sustainability, also through the involvement of external private entities , confirming the revitalization and regeneration objectives aimed at diversifying the residential mono-functionality of the Ponte Lambro district, through the inclusion of activities capable of having a positive social impact at a local level.

The overall economic cost of the works is estimated at approximately 7 million euros and a public contribution of 3,2 million is expected, equal to 48% of the cost.
The works will last 15 months.
