Housing policies. New life for the towers in via Cilea, redevelopment work has begun on the public housing in the Gallaratese area

Milan, March 7 2020 – An impressive renovation and redevelopment work, centered on the arrangement of the facades, the renovation of the roofs and the replacement of the water distribution network inside the homes. Work has started in recent days in the public housing blocks of via Cilea, in the Gallaratese/San Leonardo area, which will continue for the next year and a half with the aim of refurbishing the two 14-storey towers each of numbers 118 and 120 in where approximately 600 people live distributed in the 247 homes present.

In more detail, the works, financed with 5 million euros and directed by MM, manager of the municipal public housing, will focus on the renovation of the water system - which is why the company will also have to partly operate inside the homes, in particular in the bathrooms and kitchens - on the rearrangement and rationalization of the spaces on the ground floor of the towers and the relevant courtyards, as well as the waste rooms, and on the interventions aimed at safety and obtaining the CPI, the Fire Prevention Certificate.

Once fixed, the facades will be repainted with a brick red color, as decided in a meeting organized by the Tenants Committee in which numerous residents participated.

“I am happy with the start of the construction site because it involves work that has been awaited for a long time on two buildings that present quite a few critical issues – intervenes the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti – They will be works that could generate some disturbance, because for the renovation of the water system the company will also have to operate inside the accommodation. For this, we count on the collaboration of the families, knowing that in the end we will achieve an important result, that of giving a new face to two blocks of flats where many of our tenants live, eliminating the problems they have been forced to deal with for years".
