Housing policies. Urban planning agreements, the social rent apartments will go to people with disabilities and families on the list for public housing

Rabaiotti: “We implement solutions to respond to the housing needs of the most vulnerable”

Milan, May 16 2021 - The apartments built following urban planning agreements and intended for rent at a social rent will be assigned to people with disabilities, large families and elderly people who have applied for public housing, without obtaining it.

“We are working - comments the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti - to try in every way to increase the number of available accommodations and thus increase the possibilities of access to housing to respond to the housing needs especially of the most fragile families, already recognized as eligible to access public services. We simplify and speed up the assignment procedures and, at the same time, we try to overcome the historical limits of the existing public heritage which, due to its structural characteristics, struggles to meet and satisfy the needs of families in which there are people with disabilities or many children and who qualify for public housing."

In essence, the Municipality will scroll through the ranking of the last available tender for which the ordinary assignment procedures have been exhausted and in which there are already verified and suitable nuclei. As a priority, the assignments will go in order to families with people with disabilities, large families (five or more members) or in which there is at least one elderly person over eighty.

This procedure, just approved by council resolution, now replaces the one used previously, which provided for the publication of specific notices by the property owner or managing body. For agreements already in place, the new procedure will be applied to the remaining apartments, i.e. those which, despite the notice promoted by the operator, have not yet been assigned.

This is the case, for example, of the 62 apartments still vacant in the residential complexes in the area of via Rizzoli and between via Sordello and Cascina Merezzate, the result of a real estate operation started in 2008: then the Municipality of Milan approved the concession in law of ninety years of surface area of some areas owned by it as part of the planning for the development of residential housing at social, moderate and subsidized rent. The urban planning agreement stipulated with REDO SGR Società Benefit, which in the meantime took over from the previous operators, envisaged allocating a total of 87 social rent accommodations within the two projects: of these, 62 are the remaining accommodations which will now be assigned, as before application of the new rules, to those - with disabilities, in a large group or over 80 - who have already applied for public housing and are waiting on the list.
