Rabaiotti: "The commitment to improve the quality of living in public housing and to increase the response capacity for those in difficulty continues"

Milan, February 26 2021 – An agreement between the Municipality of Milan and ALER to increase the public response capacity to the housing emergency.

The Memorandum of Understanding just approved by the Council provides that the entire building in via Newton 15, together with twenty real estate units belonging to popular complexes all owned by ALER and also in the San Siro district, will be granted with a loan for use contract free of charge for a period of 25 years to the municipal administration, which will arrange for their restructuring and redevelopment and then allocate them to the housing emergency, in order to enhance the possibilities of reception and support in the face of the difficulties of the most fragile families. The service will be coordinated through a managing body, to be identified through a public tender.

Today the building in via Newton is reserved for offices which will be transferred to a building in the same neighborhood, in the neighboring via Zamagna.

"We insist - comments the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti - with the presentation of projects to bring resources to working-class neighborhoods that allow us to continue with the redevelopment of housing, to make houses more efficient from an energy point of view to reduce pollution and reduce costs, to add services and enhance the response possibilities for the inhabitants. All this to leave useful tools and financing for the Milan of tomorrow".

The renovation works will be part of the proposal that the Municipality is finalizing and then presenting to the MIT to join the National Innovative Program for the Quality of Living (call based on inter-ministerial decree no. 395 of last September), expiring on March 16th. If approved by the ad hoc Commission established at the Ministry, the interventions will be financed with state resources made available through the tender. Among the eligible proposals, in fact, are mentioned interventions for the redevelopment of public residential areas, including the construction of accommodation to be used on a rotational basis for temporary assignments.
