Maran and Granelli: "We want to create more and more livable and safe public spaces for citizens." Ping-pong and picnic tables, benches and plants

Milan, August 13 2020 – Tactical urban planning projects underway. Having recently completed the interventions in via Pacini and piazza Ferrara, which saw the creation of new pavements and crossings and the installation of benches, flower boxes, racks and picnic tables, the Open Squares project is making a stop on the island, in Bande Nere and Quarto Oggiaro to carry out three new interventions.

“The Open Squares project is strongly linked to Open Streets, with the aim of creating more and more liveable and safe public spaces for citizens – declare the councilors Pierfrancesco Maran (Urban Planning) and Marco Granelli (Mobility) -. All the interventions we are carrying out, and which we will carry out in the autumn, derive from proposals from citizens, associations and schools, who have enthusiastically supported our proposal to redesign parts of the neighborhood together. From Piazza Dergano to Via Venini, the interventions already carried out in recent years have been providential in a summer in which outdoor spaces have become fundamental for the city".

Work has started in via Toce, in the stretch between the Bruno Munari park and the kindergarten park, which will become pedestrianised, hosting 12 benches, 4 picnic tables and 2 ping-pong tables. A cycle path will be traced along Via Cusio up to Piazzale Sportorno, while at the corner between Via Boltraffio and Via Alserio the crossing will be made safe thanks to the widening of the pavement.

New furnishings have also arrived in recent days in Piazzetta Capuana, in Quarto Oggiaro, in particular some potted trees and a ping-pong table. In September, right nearby, another intervention will improve the liveability of via Val Lagarina, where a new square will be created in front of the school with boxes for vegetable gardens and flower boxes. There is also news in Piazzale Tripoli, where at the entrance on Via Zanzur, in the area under the trees, some picnic and ping-pong tables have been placed. Here the intervention will be completed with the installation of further furnishings in the autumn.

In September, when the temperatures will drop and allow the paint to set, we will then proceed with coloring interventions on the flooring of all areas, including Via Pacini and Piazza Ferrara.
