Milan, February 16 2021 – From successful experiments to permanent redevelopments. While the works in Piazza Dergano that began last November are coming to life, those for the definitive arrangement of two other "tactical squares" built in recent years are starting: Angilberto II at Corvetto and Belloveso at Niguarda.

“With experimentation we have created new spaces of sociality, giving citizens back areas devoid of identity and decorum – declare the councilors Pierfrancesco Maran (Urban Planning) and Marco Granelli (Mobility) -. Now let's make these places even more beautiful with structural interventions, which, taking into account the experimentation, have also made some road changes to improve road safety. We want the squares to be the heart of every neighborhood because the quality of public space and the availability of pedestrian and green areas to live in safely are fundamental in the city 15 minutes away."

We are starting these days with the construction of Piazza Angilberto II, with an intervention that will continue until next autumn and which will be divided into two phases.

The first, which follows the tactical square project, begins these days and continues until mid-August, involves the insertion of trees, shrubs and clear flowerbeds. The perimeter of the intervention extends as far as Via Comacchio, with the raising of the sidewalks - which are widened to encourage pedestrian traffic with the installation of a pavement in draining ecological concrete and concrete slabs. Also from via Comacchio it will be possible to enter via Ravenna.
Via San Dionigi will be transformed into a two-way street and this will relieve the traffic crossing from Via Ravenna and the entire neighborhood. The section entering Piazza Angilberto II from the west will only be accessible by public transport in reserved lanes.

The second phase will begin in mid-July, therefore slightly overlapping with phase 1, and provides for further improvements to the safety of the road system to also protect the Fabio Filzi primary school in via Ravenna from traffic, creating a one-way street in the south direction between via Piazzetta and via Barabino.

With the completion of the intervention, Piazza Angilberto II will have 1.470 square meters of greenery (lawns and bushes) and 55 trees including magnolias, maples, flowering pears and koelreuterie.

In the second half of the year it will be the turn of Piazza Belloveso, in Niguarda. The intervention involves the permanent redevelopment of the area already improved and made more accessible to citizens by the tactical urban planning intervention in the context of Open Squares and intends to enhance the space to give a real square to Niguarda also as a function of the churchyard. We will then proceed with the creation of new Beola cube flooring, the installation of Montofano granite and wooden seats, the protection of existing trees and the installation of 8 new specimens and the creation of flowerbeds.
