Milan, November 19 2022 – The Municipality of Milan aims to increase the number of Open Squares with a project aimed at girls and boys, which aims to increase the public space and pedestrian areas available to children in front of schools.  After the 40 interventions carried out by the Piazze Aperte program between 2018 and 2022 and the over 25 thousand mXNUMX made pedestrian and transformed into public spaces, a new phase begins which, as always, will have citizens at the center of the planning.      From today, the public notice Open Squares for each school is online on the website of the Municipality of Milan, developed in collaboration with the Mobility, Environment and Territory Agency (Amat), for the presentation of proposals for redevelopment and collaboration interventions.  The notice is aimed at finding subjects who want to collaborate with the Municipality of Milan in the design, creation, care and activation of new Open Squares near nursery, primary and secondary schools.  The proposals must concern roads and public spaces near schools, throughout the territory of the Municipality of Milan. The public notice is aimed at schools, associations and committees of school parents, other non-profit bodies, registered social streets, owners of commercial activities and homes that directly overlook public spaces, also proposed by active citizens as individual subjects or gathered in social formations.  The proposed projects, if positively evaluated, may lead to a Collaboration Agreement and the implementation of the intervention, which will have an experimental and temporary nature, followed by a monitoring phase.  In the coming months, moments of aggregation for citizens and celebrations for the little ones will also be organized thanks to "Piazze Aperte for Kids", a proposal approved by the municipal council for the search for subjects who organize activities for recreational and social purposes.  These initiatives will be implemented in public spaces transformed thanks to the Piazze Aperte program, launched in 2018 in collaboration with Bloomberg Associates and the Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI).  “I believe that Milan must have the ambition of offering more child-friendly spaces – declares Pierfrancesco Maran, councilor for the Neighborhood Plan -. For this reason, thanks to the support of Amat, we have imagined this tool which, through the involvement of citizens, will lead to the creation of new open squares".  “Changing the face of the streets in front of schools – added Arianna Censi, councilor for Mobility – means changing the face of the neighbourhood, as well as making access safer for the children and girls who frequent them. This is why we are working to offer this option to the greatest number of schools in Milan."
