Milan, 4 April 2022 - This morning the State Police, Carabinieri, the ATS veterinary service, in addition to the local police, intervened in the vast area of Piazza d'Armi, former property of the Ministry of Defense and the State Property Agency, transferred in 2016 to the I3-Sviluppo Italia fund -8 quater managed by INVIMIT, between Mazzarino, Domokos, Olivieri and Forze Armate streets, for the clearance of illegal occupations and subsequent safety measures.

In particular, the intervention concerned the northern portion of the area of over 600 square metres, which had been occupied for several years by a settlement of shacks and illegal vegetable gardens and was partly used as an open-air landfill. Some animals were also found here - roosters, hens, ducks and dogs - which were taken into care by the Ats veterinary service. The intervention will also extend to the southern part.

As regards safety and protection from possible fires, Invimit (Investimenti Immobiliari Italiani Sgr SpA, an asset management company of the Ministry of Economy and Finance) will immediately take care of the portion of Piazza d'Armi between via Domokos and via Tosi for the mowing of shrubs and brushwood, the demolition of illegal buildings and the cleaning of waste, in order to protect against environmental danger and new occupations. We will therefore proceed to close the entrances to the area from Tosi and Domokos streets pending the recovery and green development of the area along lines that will also be agreed with the urban redevelopment and environment departments.

“It is a huge area - declares the Councilor for Security Marco Granelli - therefore a complex but necessary intervention to give the city back a space to enjoy. With the timely work to make Invimit safe, today we are freeing it while waiting for the process to identify the operators who will take care of the complete redevelopment to be completed".
