Grandi and Maran: “Waiting for the opening of M4, a quality public space for the neighborhood” -Photo gallery

Milan, November 6 2021 – With the removal of the construction sites, completed this morning, Piazza Artigianato is returned to the neighborhood, the subject of an important redevelopment and beautification project.

The intervention was born with the aim of making the central space, previously a messy and little-used area, communicate with the surrounding sidewalks and commercial activities, creating a new quality public space that can be used in complete safety.

The central parterre has in fact been expanded, with the introduction of guardrails to limit the speed of vehicles and protect the safety of pedestrians. New benches have been placed under the large trees already present in the square, and bike racks have been placed. For the entertainment of children, unique and original pieces have been created in stone, inserted into the furnishings and intended to last over time, thus accompanying the children as they grow and strengthening the sense of belonging to this place.

“From an anonymous area to a quality space for moments of sociality, meeting and play – declare the councilors Elena Grandi (Green and Environment) and Pierfrancesco Maran (Neighborhood Plan) –. We are in an important hub for the neighborhood: while waiting for the opening of the M4, Piazza Artigianato becomes a new vital centre, a quality place for families, children and the elderly and from which the nearby commercial establishments will also benefit".

For two other city squares, Piazza Spoleto-Venini and Largo San Dionigi in Pratocentenaro, the Municipality of Milan has then opened a call for tenders to select professionals who will carry out, for the first, a long-lasting repainting of the tactical urban planning floor graphics, and for the second, an original work of graphic art to be created on pedestrian surfaces. The search for a street coloring expert and a 'street artist' falls within the objectives of the European project "CLEAR - City LivEAbility by Redesign" and in synergy with those of the "Piazze Aperte" program.

The collection of applications is open until November 13th (link to the announcement).
