Milan, June 21 2021 – The Teatro Lirico of Milan celebrates the end of the renovation works with a special initiative: 4 solo piano concerts, organized by Piano city Milano, which will allow the public to have a first contact with the historic Milanese theatre, awaiting its next inauguration after closing in 1999 and the subsequent restoration site. 
The initiative, promoted and implemented by the Piano City Milano Association and the Municipality of Milan, will occupy the whole day of Saturday 26 June, from 10:00 to 19:00, and is part of the vast Piano City Milano program which extends from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 June.

"Giving space to the arts that the Lirico deserves to host: this is the best way to celebrate the end of the works of this historic and important city theater - declared the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala -. I am really proud of the fact that after twenty years of silence, the Opera will once again make its voice heard and it will do so, exclusively, in the context of an event as much loved and appreciated as Pianocity Milano. The four solo piano concerts, scheduled for this weekend, are what that the Lirico needed to restart".

Ricciarda Belgiojoso, Artistic Director of Piano city Milan: "The emotional charge already strongly felt for this tenth edition which accompanies the resumption of live concerts increases further, for a festival like ours which follows the evolution of the city, with the extraordinary opportunity of experience the reopening of the Lyric Theater as a preview. For the occasion we present, also symbolically, young talents with classical and new music". 
 
The special day will open at 10:00 with a concert by Halyna Malenko, created in collaboration with the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan, who will perform music by Liszt. At 12:30 Vincenzo Parisi will propose his compositions and tributes to important works presented over the years at the Teatro Lirico. This will be followed at 15 pm by Elena Chiavegato, with music by Beethoven and Chopin, and at 00 pm by Omar Delnevo with works by Debussy, Scriabin, Webern, Feldman and Crumb.

Admission to the concerts is free upon reservation required on the official website of the event (www.pianocitymilano.it/programma). To participate it is mandatory to wear rubber soled shoes. 
 
Piano city Milano will celebrate this tenth edition with the music of over 150 Italian and international pianists. The event, with the artistic direction of Ricciarda Belgiojoso and Titti Santini, will take place live in symbolic places of the city, with over 100 unmissable concerts organized in full compliance with the safety standards for public health (free admission, reservation required on www .pianocitymilano.it).

The notes of the pianos will resound from important districts of the city of Milan, crossing splendid places such as the Gallery of Modern Art, Triennale Milano, the courtyard of honor of the University of Milan, Volvo studio Milano, BASE Milano, Chiaravalle Pavilion, Urban cultural sea, the gardens of via Mosso (ang. via Padova), Parco Trotter, the San Faustino all'Ortica garden, Cascina Campazzo, the SNAI San Siro racecourse, the new gardens of via Dezza (with the preview on 23 June ), the foundation also in Baranzate.

The emotions of Piano city Milano can also be experienced remotely thanks to a schedule of live streaming that will allow all those who cannot participate live to follow the festival.

Piano city Milan returns thanks to an intense collaboration between public institutions and private companies which allows the festival to be accessible for free and present in every area of ​​the city. Collaborations with prestigious musical institutions such as the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Music in Milan, the Claudio Abbado Civic School of Music, the Gaetano Donizetti Conservatory of Bergamo, the Venezia Prize, the Léopold Bellan International Concours, the Primavera di Baggio and the Antonia Pozzi Prize are important.

Piano city Milan is a project of the Piano city Milan Association with the Municipality of Milan, curated by Ponderosa music&art and Accapiù.

It was born in 2011 as the city's first widespread festival and contributes to the wave of vitality and urban and cultural experiments that lead Milan to become the vibrant European metropolis it is today. Among the founders of the festival and the Association, Daniela Cattaneo Diaz and Titti Santini, who have always believed in the project and built a network of supporting partners who over the years have invested in Piano city Milano - in imagining a different vision of Milan.
