Milan, November 23 2019 - Milan, with the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, enters among the 10 most beautiful photographs of the Wiki Loves Monument competition. Conquers ninth place in the ranking won by the city of Ferrara. The proclamation took place today in Turin, at Palazzo Cisterna, during the final event of the competition which saw the participation of 25.889 photographs from all over Italy. More than eight hundred, 130 of which depicting the Sforzesco Castle, were sent from Milan, but the winner was the Gallery with a suggestive nocturnal image. Maurizio Moro created it on December 20, 2016, at 4:09:56. This is the jury's motivation: "An iconic monument of the city, immortalized with extreme technical rigor from an unusual point of view, from which it seems like reading two distinct, almost mirrored scenes".

“I am very satisfied with the award given today to one of the photos taken in Milan which portrays a beautiful vision of the Gallery”, comments the councilor for Participation, Active Citizenship and Open Data, Lorenzo Lipparini. “Thanks to Wiki Loves Monuments this and the other images that have been selected for the competition will be seen and used all over the world under a free license and will allow us to show the beauty of our cultural heritage through the eyes of citizens, our most precious celebrity endorsement".

The shots are already available on the Wikimedia Commons digital database, which aims to collect, promote and enhance cultural assets and artistic beauties of all the cities of the world on the web.
