A program for the public space of Milan

Milan, May 27 2022 – A beautiful story which, thanks to the participation of many active citizens, is renewed.

The Collaboration Pact between the Municipality, Municipality 7 and associations for the approximately one thousand square meters of Piazza Sicilia and the adjacent streets Seprio and Sacco was reconfirmed today, in the presence of representatives of the Administration.

In the aftermath of the presentation of the report "Open squares", an opportunity to take stock of the tactical urban planning interventions carried out to date in Milan, comes the renewal of a participation path which led, in 2020, to the regeneration of an anonymous and passage space. The pedestrianization in front of the school has in fact it made the area safer and more pleasant for students, which was colored and also equipped with ping pong and picnic tables, wooden benches, bicycle racks and potted trees. 

Thanks to the renewal of the Collaboration Agreement, the "Umberto Eco" state comprehensive institute, the Spazio Capoeira Desequilibri, the Metiss'Art SpA associations, Walter Vinci ONLUS, Teatro Quattro, the parents of the primary school of Piazza Sicilia and Monteverdi, Family dance and the "Sicilia" municipal library will commit to animating this square with moments of culture, sport, art and much more.

With the pedestrianization already approved by the Council, a space where cars dominated until two years ago has been returned to sociality and in particular to the little ones, and will be reborn with yoga and capoeira lessons, exhibitions, readings, physical activities, workshops on sustainability, traditional and contemporary ethnic dance shows, jam sessions, book presentations, choral singing sessions and musical performances aimed at raising awareness on the topic of Alzheimer's, therapeutic gardening experiences with particular focus on the intergenerational perspective.

Among the various activities that will be carried out, there is also the "flower garden" project, with which girls and boys, in the company of their parents, will be involved in the care of green areas and flower beds, in citizenship education courses and moments of active game.

The new player in this renewed pact will be the "Sicilia" local library, a real strong point in the relationship with the territory, a hub of information and culture, but above all a place of meeting and aggregation.

The library itself will also benefit from the new face of Piazza Sicilia and will undertake to plan social events, cultural and recreational activities in the new outdoor spaces, with the aim of promoting reading and supporting the inclusion of people of all ages.
