Milan, February 25 2022 – The Municipality of Milan has signed a Collaboration Agreement with Harpies roller derby Milano ASD, Shareradio web radio, the Confalonieri Parents, Medionauta and Linfa associations, for the revitalization of Piazza Minniti, in the Isola district, Municipio 9.

From parking lot to tactical square. The area has recently been the subject of pedestrianization and redevelopment interventions in a tactical urban planning key, as part of the liveability by redesign "CLEAR" project financed by EIT Urban mobility.

And now transform a square into a place capable of responding to the new needs of sociality and aggregation of the neighborhood: this is the even more ambitious objective that the collaboration sets itself.

The area is therefore preparing to welcome school children and young people through recreational, sporting and cultural activities, with educational moments on current issues, in agreement with the school complexes, and with open lessons in different sports, theater and music workshops .

The Harpies, one of the first Italian teams and the only one from Milan in this contact sport on quad roller skates (Roller derby) which has around 25 athletes, some of which are part of the Italian national team, has organized in recent years - enjoying great success success - entertainment activities on skates and will undertake to schedule skating lessons every Thursday afternoon, from 17pm to 19pm, together with other sports promotion events.

The Confalonieri Parents association will be the protagonist, however, through recreational/educational initiatives and events for school children as well as with days dedicated to particular themes.

Medionauta and Linfa will promote creative workshops, reading groups, game afternoons and dance activities.

"Piazza Minniti is an area of ​​great potential – declares the councilor for civic services with responsibility for Participation Gaia Romani – and I am very happy that it will become the subject of a collaboration agreement that will lead it to improve its face and open up, again more, to the community. Through a co-planning process, the associations will give life to new activities to make the square even more regenerated and welcoming. The Milan we want is a city increasingly participated by citizens, the true drivers of change and valorization of our neighborhoods".

"This is a collaboration agreement that we are particularly keen on – states the President of Municipality 9 Anita Pirovano – because its aim is the total usability of the public space by children and young people in the neighbourhood, freeing the square from cars to offer it for free time , sociality, play, sport. We will work with active citizens to pursue it and ensure its best outcome. The objective is to ban wild parking and introduce elements of urban furniture such as picnic and ping tables -pong, so as to make the square more pleasant and livable".
