Municipality and citizens will act together for the redevelopment, regeneration and care of the areas around the railway tunnels that connect via Padova to viale Monza

Milan, 1 October 2021 – The collaboration pact was signed on Friday 1 October between institutions, local entities and inhabitants of the neighborhood for the redevelopment and revitalization of via Pontano and the areas pertaining to the railway tunnels that connect via Padova to viale Monza, which will be followed care, animation and maintenance actions.

Finalized as part of the "Open Squares" program of the Municipality of Milan, the "Tunnel Boulevard" Pact intends to enhance the entire route of via Pontano, linking via Padova to viale Monza with a cycle-pedestrian route capable of creating a neighborhood itinerary , where existing actions can be strengthened in a single network, such as the Piazza Aperta project in via Venini-Nolo and the TrentaMi intervention in via Rovereto-via Giacosa-Parco Trotter.

The “Tunnel Boulevard” project intends, on a territorial scale, to optimize the projects and actions already implemented by the Municipality of Milan, triggering a process capable of increasing the liveability and interconnection of the open spaces of the neighborhood, definitively transforming the overpass railway from a physical barrier and abandoned space to a place of urban creativity and social meeting. In particular, the supporting walls of the viaduct along Via Pontano will be enhanced, becoming a true open-air gallery of murals, thanks to the spontaneous activity of numerous groups of artists and crews, some of which have already been active on site since the 90s. XNUMX.

The area will also become a place in which to activate animation processes in the spaces adjacent to the tunnel: outdoor entertainment activities and other performing arts, temporary urban art installations - street art, recreational events linked to the culture of well-being and the care of greenery , as well as collective moments of cleaning and collection of abandoned waste in the areas surrounding Via Pontano.

The Pact is the formalization of a process already started in 2019 thanks to the support of the Municipality of Milan and the Lacittàintorno program of the Cariplo Foundation. The first piece of redevelopment of the area, concerning the intervention in the via Padova tunnel, will be carried out with the support of some sponsors and technical partners: MAPEI spa and YUME srl, under the technical direction of MM spa, will carry out the high-pressure cleaning interventions and the restoration of the walls of the damaged tunnels, as well as providing the materials necessary for painting the walls. The insertion of new lighting fixtures, to increase the daytime and nighttime visibility of the tunnel's pedestrian passages, will also be carried out by A2A while FinecoBank will support some artistic interventions.

Signatories of the Pact with the Municipality of Milan are the T12-Lab Association, the Comin Social Cooperative, B-CAM Cooperativa Sociale and ComunicareArte Atelier Spazio Xpò.
