Lipparini: “Online Milan portrayed by its citizens in hundreds of photos that tell of its beauty and culture”

Milan, November 16 2019 – It is the second most visited monument in the city after the Duomo, but in the ranking of the most photographed places it takes first place with 130 shots. For the 2019 edition of the Wiki Loves Monuments competition, organized and promoted by Wikimedia Italia, the Castello Sforzesco is the site most loved by the Milanese, followed at a distance by the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (which with one shot however wins a place among the finalist images ) and the Monumental Cemetery. These are the most immortalized cultural assets among the 144 monuments authorized by the Municipality of Milan that participants in the competition could photograph this year.

In total, 826 images were collected for the 2019 edition of Wiki Loves Monuments which portray cultural heritage of Milan and its province: https://bit.ly/2r7v3RG.

The most beautiful photos, chosen from over 25 thousand collected, will be revealed and awarded on Saturday 23 November in Turin, at Palazzo Cisterna, during the final event of the competition which will also include a conference on the theme of freedom of panorama.

“Last year a beautiful image of Fabbrica del Vapore was among the winners of the national competition and we hope that this year too one of our monuments will be recognized. This initiative has value on many levels, first of all because it spreads the image of the beauty and cultural richness of Milan on the web; then because it testifies to great activism among Milanese citizens who, on a professional level or as amateurs, choose to document and make their point of view on our city available to everyone. I thank all these active citizens and the organizers of Wikimedia Italia for involving us in the competition again this year."

Participation in the competition was approved by the Council in view of its dual purpose: on the one hand to give media prominence, through the free encyclopedia Wikipedia, to well-known but also less well-known monuments of the city with high importance for its history and its identity, such as plaques commemorating historical figures, politicians and historical facts of local and national importance; on the other hand, to encourage the Milanese to participate in large numbers by publishing their shots and competing in the award ceremony for the most beautiful ones.

As happened in the previous editions of the competition (2017 and 2018), this year too the Municipality, by virtue of the open licenses, will be able to use the images free of charge for its institutional communication and promotional activities through its website, connected portals and channels. social.

The list of places authorized for photographic shooting included the most visible monuments and hidden artefacts, ranging from the center to the suburbs, in search of a beautiful Milan, often admired in silence and worthy of being revealed.
