Milan, August 19 2020 – The works for the functional recovery of the former swimming pool inside the Trotter Park are in the final phase. By September the large space of 1.800 square meters will again be available to the school and citizens.

The area today features two new multifunctional sports fields of 25x16 meters each, which can be used for volleyball, basketball and five-a-side football and also for outdoor shows. The surface of the fields was colored with two shades of blue to remember the ancient function of that place, the school swimming pool of the Casa del Sole, inaugurated in 1925 and dedicated to children with tuberculosis.

“Being able to return such a beautiful and important historical space to the citizens is a source of pride for the Administration – comments the Councilor for Public Works Marco Granelli –, especially in a context like the Trotter Park which has always been a point of reference for the Milanese. A project born from the will of the citizens, which we welcomed with great favor and on which the offices did an extraordinary job. I thank everyone for the result and I am sure that the reopening of this place will be welcomed with great enthusiasm by the entire neighborhood."

“We are delivering to the city a work born from the protagonism of citizens through the participatory budget and inserted in a context full of interventions that redevelop the entire neighborhood – states the councilor for Participation Lorenzo Lipparini -. With the citizens we will be able to animate it with sporting and cultural initiatives, for the benefit of the Trotter Park and the territory, through collaboration agreements with the many local entities".

The works involved cleaning the area from overgrown vegetation, removing the flooring from the pool edge and the curbs, raising all the elements, cleaning the columns and decorative concrete pillars, which were also rebuilt in the missing parts, checking and replastering and laying out a new sewer line.

A new porphyry flooring was laid on the former pool edge, to guarantee better access to the public, while maintaining a small portion of the old sports flooring, as a reminder of the activities that were carried out here. Two accesses with ramps suitable for people with disabilities have also been inserted on the balustrade.

The redevelopment proposal won the participatory budget of the Municipality of Milan and the works were financed for a total of approximately 420 thousand euros.
