Royal Palace. Friday free entry to the exhibition “The wonderful world of nature. A fairy tale between art, myth and science”

Milan, July 10 2019 - On the occasion of the last opening days of the exhibition “The wonderful world of nature. A fairy tale between art, myth and science", which closes on Sunday 14 July, Municipality of Milan | Culture and 24 ORE Cultura-Gruppo 24 ORE have decided to offer free entry to the exhibition for the whole day of Friday 12 July, from 9 am :30am to 19pm. This initiative is possible thanks to the support of the Ganassini Institute, a historic Italian pharmaceutical brand which has taken up the challenge of restoring the 30 canvases of the "Orpheus Cycle" to their ancient splendor, the protagonists of the exhibition together with other masterpieces such as the Fruit Basket of Caravaggio, contributing to their restoration and offering the public the opportunity to learn about this extraordinary work, the heritage of the Milanese civic collections.

The original exhibition project, curated by Giovanni Agosti and Jacopo Stoppa, is in fact centered on the reconstruction of the "Orpheus Cycle" according to the ancient structure and the likely original sequence with which it must have been presented when it was created around 1670 for Palazzo Visconti ( then became Lunati, then Verri) in via Monte Napoleone. The canvases were later dismantled and landed in Palazzo Sormani in 1877, where they were adapted to be displayed in the Grechetto room in the very early years of the twentieth century.
