The principles of civic living, generosity and strong solidarity: here are the winners of the XNUMXst edition

Milan, February 6 2020 – The names of the citizens who will be awarded as part of the 2020st edition of the 90 'Golden Panettone' Award for Civic Virtue were revealed today, the recognition created in the mid-XNUMXs by the Coordination of Milanese Committees to enhance their civic commitment . This is an award intended for those who have demonstrated a concrete compliance with the principles of civic life, showing an active commitment in the field of solidarity, attention to the territory and the environment, as well as in the protection of the weakest and most marginalized.

In addition to the Milanese who stood out for their social commitment, ten special mentions were awarded to as many associations that daily put into practice and help spread exemplary civic behavior in the urban fabric and 5 certificates of encouragement to both citizens and deserving associations .

The award for civic virtue 'Panettone d'oro' is supported by Comieco (National Consortium for the recovery and recycling of cellulose-based packaging), by AMSA-Gruppo A2A and by a group of city associations (Assoedilizia, Amici di Milano, Associazione SAO, CSV Milano, City Angels and Legambiente).

On the occasion of this recognition, an Ipsos survey was carried out which highlights how the Milanese are increasingly aware of the leading role that their city is playing at a national level from a civic, ethical and environmental point of view. The aspect of the sense of security offered by Milan is important: the city, in fact, is considered safe for 73% of people, and 34% even feel very safe. As many as 44% of those interviewed consider Milan the true capital of Italy and 29% believe it is an example for the whole country. 49% of those interviewed believe that the Milanese show a strong sense of solidarity towards those in need and the research shows that for 48% of the sample the civic sense bases the roots of its growth on the education of citizens and, secondly, on encouraging participation (12%). Citizens are also convinced that attention to the environment and civic sense go hand in hand: according to 89% of those interviewed, in fact, separate waste collection is a powerful indicator of civic sense, mainly due to the overall effect of reducing pollution and for this reason they dedicate attention and commitment to it. In fact, according to 74% of those interviewed, citizens' level of knowledge about separate waste collection has improved.

The generosity and civic sense of the winners range from assistance to the most needy to the desire to create spaces for aggregation, from making their skills available to voluntary surveillance or cleaning activities. Among the ten winners, for example, Faustino Boioli, a currently retired doctor who dedicates his time to the invisible to bring them free medical care, medicines and above all his humanity; Luigi De Micco, who managed to create with his Playmore! an inclusive and welcoming space dedicated above all to vulnerable people; Antonella Musella, point of contact and organizer of numerous and varied community initiatives in the Gratosoglio district; Armando Leone, who for decades has proposed himself as a volunteer grandfather-vigilante for the protection of the territory and the surveillance of some municipal structures.

The Award also focuses on ten associations that have stood out for their solidarity commitment. The commitment of the various associations is very varied, but always aimed at supporting the most needy people: from the Portico della solidarità, a "solidarity supermarket" which allows those in difficulty to stock up on the basic necessities of the "Andrea" Volunteer Association Aziani” ONLUS to support charitable works of the Claudio Marovelli Onlus Association.

This year a third category of encouragement will also be awarded, made up of both people and associations. Among the associations, for the desire to come together and create moments of sharing especially for dementia sufferers, we remember Gli Smemoriati di via Padova, while for individual citizens Marcos Cappato stands out, nominated for the iron will demonstrated in supporting the right to education for all people who do not have the possibility to reach schools independently.

The awards ceremony will be held tomorrow, Friday 7 February, at 17 pm at the Teatro dell'arte della Triennale (viale Alemagna, 30), in the presence of the municipal administration and the metropolitan city of Milan. Carlo Montalbetti, general director of Comieco, will coordinate the awards ceremony.
