Maran: “Third party to monitor the protection of the soil and greenery and implement the expansion of the South Park”. The resolution, now being examined by the municipal council, approves the establishment of the collegiate body and its regulations

Milan, 11 December 2020 – Supervise the correct application of the regulations regarding land consumption and greenery protection and implement the procedures for the expansion of the Southern Agricultural Park for a surface area of ​​over 1,5 million mXNUMX, as established in the Government Plan of territory. These will be the main tasks of the Guarantor of greenery, soil and trees, the new collegiate body whose establishment was approved today by the Council. The resolution, which will have to be examined by the City Council, includes the Regulation that defines the functioning and purposes of the new structure.

“Also accepting a request from the City Council – declares the councilor for Urban and Green Planning Pierfrancesco Maran – we want to establish a third party capable of monitoring the Administration's work in terms of soil and green protection, to guarantee citizens and the environment. Among the main tasks, the guarantor will have to activate the procedures for modifying the perimeters of the regional parks, functional to the expansion of the Southern Agricultural Park, a fundamental element for the creation of the large metropolitan park. An expansion made possible by the Territorial Government Plan, which reduces consumption by only 4% and removes over 3 million square meters of areas from construction, 1,5 of which in the South Park, and by the recent acquisition by the Municipality of agricultural areas within the park. We would like to remind you that Milan has an extraordinary heritage of 8 million m29 of agricultural areas out of a total of 180 million mXNUMX of cultivated areas across the entire urban territory, a vast XNUMX million mXNUMX".

The Guarantor will be an independent collegial body made up of three members, appointed by the Mayor from among competent people in the field of environmental sciences and urban planning who will remain in office for five years with possible renewal only once. Among its tasks, in addition to those already mentioned: contribute to guaranteeing the protection of land consumption and the increase of existing greenery and trees, promote listening and information actions towards citizens, dialogue with municipal offices on compensation related to land consumption, verify the monitoring in collaboration with the One Stop Shop Area for construction and the municipalities of the interventions to be carried out on private land which involve modification of the use of the land and of the trees.

The Guarantor, who will carry out his honorary role, will report to the Mayor, the Council, the City Council and the Commissions and will be able to report and request initiatives and interventions from the Municipal bodies whenever he deems it appropriate.
