Milan, June 23 2020 – The Municipality of Milan, following today's meeting with the representatives of AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano, announces that significant progress has been made in the development of the project presented by the Clubs for the redevelopment of the current Giuseppe Meazza stadium and the creation of a Sports and Entertainment District in San Siro with a reduced volumetric index equivalent to 145 thousand mXNUMX.

This proposal was conceived in order to implement the indications of the Council and the City Council and maintaining the technical and economic-financial sustainability for a new stadium and a sports district of absolute international avant-garde.

In the current context, it is of fundamental importance to be able to launch a project in Milan that will generate an increase in employment estimated at between 3.000 and 3.500 jobs and will improve an important urban area, becoming an extraordinary opportunity for the City of Milan and for Italian football .

The Municipal Council Resolution n. 1905 of 8 November 2019 has already recognized the public interest in the proposal presented by AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano relating to the valorisation of the San Siro area. This act, however, is subject to a series of conditions, in relation to which, during previous meetings, the relevant bodies and representatives of the Clubs have specified and verified the perimeter of compliance, carrying out a process of sharing and discussion that has better defined and improved the project.

As regards the request for the refunctionalisation of the Meazza stadium, the Clubs have outlined project developments which envisage the maintenance of elements of the current facility in the new district, which will have a predominantly sporting and entertainment vocation and will therefore be for the benefit of the citizens. An urban regeneration intervention with a sporting connotation, usable 365 days a year, also dedicated to basic sports, a cultural and innovative "hub" for the new generations, at the forefront in terms of environmental impact, inclusiveness and sustainability; a safe community center, open to social and recreational activities in the neighborhood.

Many of the activities planned in the project (including a jogging path, a cycle path, an outdoor gym, a "skateboard park", a climbing wall, a zip line, a sports museum) will be free or subsidized with the Municipality of Milan, in favor of citizens, residents, local cultural associations and organisations, as well as schools and healthcare facilities in the area.

These sporting, recreational and cultural activities will be located both outdoors and within redeveloped spaces and the pedestrian area open to the community will be approximately 220.000 m106.000, of which at least 56.000 mXNUMX of green areas (double compared to the current XNUMX mXNUMX).

Finally, the updated feasibility study will provide for a significant reduction in the ancillary volumes both compared to the initial proposal and compared to the refunctionalization of the Meazza stadium proposed in April 2020.

The cost of the refunctionalization of the Meazza, equal to approximately 74 million euros according to the teams' estimate, would lead to a maximum building index of 0,51 m145/m0,35, equivalent to XNUMX thousand mXNUMX of SL. It is obviously understood that the concession of any volumes in excess of the index currently envisaged by the Territorial Government Plan (PGT) is equal to XNUMX mXNUMX/mXNUMX and the approval of further urban planning and building contents remains subject to the decisions of the competent institutional bodies, as required by the ongoing procedure. In any case, the refunctionalization proposal must be included in the economic-financial plan also with respect to the objective of achieving the balance of the intervention.

As required by the Resolution, the Clubs will present the integration of the feasibility study and the new economic-financial plan of the project for the conclusion of the procedure relating to the declaration of public interest.
