Milan, August 22 2021 – A completely renovated area serving the Palace of Justice will be created in via San Barnaba and intended for pedestrian passage and parking of penitentiary police vehicles, motorbikes and bicycles. The works will start tomorrow, Monday 23 August, without impeding traffic, in the stretch between via Freguglia and via Manara.

The project of the Technical Area of the Municipality of Milan, shared with those responsible for the Palace of Justice, envisages the creation of a functional, safe, orderly and decorous place. In the space that houses the vehicles of the Penitentiary Police and the Police Force and which today appears like an asphalt esplanade, trees are planned (25 of them will be planted), flowerbeds, stone paving and stalls intended for two-wheelers.
The redevelopment will subsequently also concern the road section of via S. Barnaba between the two intersections, with wider stone sidewalks and a new pedestrian passage at the central entrance of the Palace, improving the urban landscape and user safety. The two intersections and the new pedestrian crossing will be raised at pavement level for better accessibility for everyone and to reduce vehicle speed, improving road safety.

The works will last until March 2022, trying to cause as little disruption as possible to the activity of the Palace of Justice and in general to the mobility of an important part of the city, where movements also converge for those accessing health and cultural services.

The works are an important part of the broader intervention that involved the Palace of Justice with the construction of the new offices in via San Barnaba.
