Reinventing cities. Areas at 1 euro for those who build houses for rent at controlled prices

Objective, three-room apartments for rent at 500 euros per month - Reinventing cities, six areas to reinvent (in English)

Milan, July 7 2022 - Create new homes at affordable and subsidized costs, for rent and for sale, to give Milanese citizens new housing opportunities at controlled prices. With this aim, the Municipality of Milan has published the sheets of the 6 sites for which expressions of interest are expected as part of Reinventing home, the third edition of Reinventing cities focused on the theme of living.

There are six areas (Abbiategrasso, Bovisasca, chartreuse, Martesana, Pythagoras, Zama-Solomon) who participate in the international tender promoted by C40 which provides for the granting of surface rights for abandoned or degraded sites to be allocated to environmental and urban regeneration projects, in compliance with the principles of sustainability and resilience.

The price for the establishment of the surface right is equal to 1 euro for the installation of leased ERS, ERP and services of public and general interest; if the proposals envisage the establishment of free urban functions, the minimum value of the surface right to be paid is that reported in the resolution of the Milan City Council of 10 February 1997 (updated annually).

The percentage of SL intended for free urban functions must be equal to a maximum of 50% and the conventional ERS SL leased to a minimum of 50%.

"We have decided to continue to promote social housing and the creation of new apartments at affordable prices for all Milanese people through the choice to put these 6 areas up for tender at 1 euro for those who decide to present projects that go in this direction", comments Pierfrancesco Maran, housing councilor of the Municipality of Milan.

On Wednesday 20 July the Municipality of Milan and C40 are promoting a webinar in which the criteria and areas for expressions of interest that must be submitted by operators by Monday 17 October will be presented.
