Note from Mayor Sala on Escobar

Note from Mayor Sala

Milan, June 28 2020 - "Sergio Escobar marked with his work and his presence the second historical phase of the Piccolo Teatro, maintaining a profound loyalty to the original mission designated by the founders Strehler and Grassi of an "art theater for all", and profoundly innovating the planning and production dimension of the Theatre.
The successes of the shows, many of which are linked to the teaching of Luca Ronconi, called by Escobar to be the artistic guide of the theatre, and the very important managerial and economic achievements, obtained thanks to his own organizational skills, have allowed the Piccolo Teatro to obtain the recognition of autonomy as the Theater of Europe for our country, an achievement which has established the absolute uniqueness of the Piccolo's experience. In all these years Sergio Escobar has never failed to pay constant attention to every aspect of the complex life of a theatre, managing to firmly manage even this very difficult phase of closure due to the health emergency. The Piccolo Teatro has always been able to speak to Milan and to the entire world, combining its vocation as an international stage with that of a true citizens' assembly; with a sense of responsibility for this history and this tradition, I am sure that the management model and the most suitable figure to collect and continue Escobar's work will be identified by the Board of Directors in concert with the Theater Members, to whom the deepest gratitude for everything he was able to give to the theater of our city".

Thus the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala.
