Milan, 2 December 2022 – Seventy-eight wooden huts, arranged along a path that winds between Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, Via ex Camposanto and Via Martini. The Christmas Market in Piazza Duomo was inaugurated today. This morning, the ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala with the councilor for Economic Development Alessia Cappello, the president of Confcommercio Carlo Sangalli and the president of Apeca (the street vendors association of Confcommercio Milan) and Fiva Confcommercio Giacomo Eric.

Promoted by Apeca and Confcommercio Milano and organized by ATI Promo.Ter - Prisma, the market will be open until 6 January, every day - even at Christmas - from 8.30am to 22pm.

Excellent food and artisan products and many gift ideas proposed by exhibitors. From traditional Christmas objects (tree decorations with blown glass Christmas balls from Northern Europe, curiosities and products for the nativity scene) to handcrafted creations, bijoux, natural cosmetics, boiled wool accessories typical of the South Tyrol, to household items, to the countless solutions for decorating the holiday table. And objects from various parts of the world.

The offer is also rich and varied in terms of gastronomic specialties from the various Italian regions. For example, it will be possible to find bottarga, smoked meats and typical Sardinian products, cheeses and cured meats from the tradition of our country, Apulian preserves, Umbrian pork butchery, artisanal panettone, honey from Val Camonica, traditional Sicilian products, wines and selected liqueurs. But also the gastronomy of Eastern Europe, spices and infusions from all over the world, characteristic Italian and international desserts.

The chocolate island will also be present: with a master chocolatier from Pavia the production cycle will be presented, from the bean to the finished product, to then be offered to the public in all forms and varieties.

In the events area it will be possible to admire a life-size nativity scene, while on the other side a "permanent theater" will be set up with a space dedicated to children (involved with fairy tales, storytellers' tales, puppets, game and magic shows).

As per tradition, thanks to the Market, contributions will be donated to the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, to the Cancer Institute, to the Casa della Carità Foundation, to the CAV-Life Help Center of the Mangiagalli Clinic and to the Mariuccia Asilo Foundation, a historic Milanese institution which helps the little ones.

"The pleasure of giving and sharing is the driving force of the Christmas Market in the Duomo, a showcase of excellence and a solidarity initiative of great value – comments the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala –. The walk among the stalls around our cathedral is part of the tradition for many citizens and tourists. Today, in these wooden houses, among artisan products and specialties from every region of Italy and the world, you can perceive an atmosphere of joy and trust in tomorrow, a message that We hope to be able to convey this to the people of Milan and to all those who will visit our city during the Christmas period."

“With the Christmas Market, in the shadow of the Duomo – states Carlo Sangalli, president of Confcommercio – Milan becomes even more beautiful and attractive. It is the visible sign of a newfound economic and social vitality that generates trust. And it is an initiative that is particularly attentive to hard-working solidarity towards people who are alone and in difficulty."

“The Christmas Market in the Duomo combines tradition with excellence – declares Giacomo Errico, president of Apeca (Confcommercio Milan) and Fiva Confcommercio – the tradition of a shopping journey, in the style of the most established markets, in the full Christmas atmosphere. And the excellence of the products: from craftsmanship to food and wine, to objects, to gift ideas for the home, cosmetics and fashion. It is a highly attractive market also for those who travel to Milan for tourism. And finally it is a moment of concrete closeness to institutions that stand out in the healthcare and social sectors."
