Christmas 2022. Trees, markets and light installations, Milan is preparing to celebrate the holidays

The description of the trees

Milan, November 25 2022 – Nineteen Christmas trees, low consumption light installations, the Oh bej! fair Oh wow! and the markets in Piazza Duomo. Milan is preparing to celebrate the 2022-23 holidays by focusing on initiatives rich in creativity, tradition and environmental and social sustainability.

Trees
There will be 19 trees that will light up the city during the Christmas period. Thanks to the joyful and inclusive fir tree that will welcome you to Piazza Duomo, the traditional tree that will embellish Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and 17 other projects, the festive atmosphere will conquer all of Milan. Squares and streets will welcome fir trees and suggestive installations, giving life, once again this year, to the "Christmas of the trees" concept, donated by the Bracco Foundation to the Municipality. LED lights with low energy consumption, sustainable materials, reusable structures, social initiatives and solidarity and engaging creative projects are the characteristics that recur among the projects that will illuminate the city, thanks to the collaboration between public and private.

Here's where to find the 18 projects of the "Christmas of the trees": Piazza Duomo (Veralab), Piazza della Scala (Dior), Piazza Diaz, Via Muratori, Piazzale Cadorna, Piazzale Archinto, Via Tolstoi/ang. via Savona, piazza Olivetti, via Flaminio and Arco della Pace (Dils), via Statuto/ang. Largo La Foppa (Acqua di Parma), Piazza Cordusio (Chanel), Piazza San Carlo (Wopta), Piazza XXV Aprile (Subaru), Piazza XXIV Maggio (Plenitude+Be Charge), Corso Garibaldi (A2A), Piazza Duca d'Aosta (Grandi Stazioni Retail) and Piazza Tre Torri (City Life, with Disney for Make-A-Wish). To these places is added Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (Swarovski).

Light installations
Light installations and rows of lights are planned in the streets of the center, but not only. Dior will light up via Manzoni and via Santa Margherita with pairs of curvilinear twigs and via Santa Rita da Cascia with strings of lights and subjects that resemble leaves; Chanel will propose luminous waterfalls and stars on Viale Affori; Wopta shooting stars for Piazza Fortunato. Citylife, with The Walt Disney company Italia, will set up the Ferrieri Gallery with 3D stars suspended horizontally, in Piazza Tre Torri it will place luminous medallions depicting Disney characters and will illuminate Via Albani with comet stars. Furthermore, Nexi will set up a roof of light with light panels of different shades of blue in via Piero della Francesca and in via Poliziano and will propose a trio of stars in via Masolino da Panicale and via Michelino da Besozzo. Veralab, in addition to the tree in Piazza Duomo, will make Via Guido d'Arezzo shine with a white and pink luminous roof and Via Saverio Griffini with comet stars. To these light installations will be added the projects developed by the street associations with the economic contribution of the Municipality.

The Christmas market in Piazza Duomo
As per tradition, on December 1st the Christmas Market in Piazza del Duomo will kick off the festive initiatives. Open until 6 January 2023 – from 8.30 am to 22 pm –, the wooden houses that reproduce a classic Lombard Christmas village will host 78 exhibitors. Excellent food products and artisanal items on sale. The market will develop on the first stretch of Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, behind the Cathedral and on Via Carlo Maria Martini. In the events area it will be possible to admire a life-size nativity scene, while on the other side a permanent theater will be set up for the scheduled initiatives. The main theme of the activities will be "Peace on earth - peace with the earth - respect - wonder - sharing". Among the proposed initiatives, also "Letters to Santa Claus": children will be able to choose the games displayed from 1st to 15th December and they will receive on Christmas morning.

The Oh bej! fair Oh wow!
From Wednesday 7 December the Oh bej fair returns! Oh bej!, an unmissable event in the Christmas calendar in Milan. The perimeter of the Sforzesco Castle will once again host the 290 exhibitor stations of the Sant'Ambrogio Fair, in the stretch between Viale Gadio, Piazza Castello and Via Minghetti. Local craft and food products, roasted chestnuts, sweets, used books, paintings, flowers, toys and Christmas decorations await the Milanese until Saturday 10 December.
