Christmas 2021. Record number of streets lit by sponsors, 30 kilometers from the center to the suburbs

In 2019 the kilometers were 12 and 11 in 2020. The call for contributions is online: up to 3 thousand euros for the associations' projects
Councilor Cappello: “Extraordinary result. Milan lights up again with Christmas and strengthens the momentum to push the economy, work and consumption in this crucial phase of recovery"

Milan 28 November 2021 – Arches, rows, luminous curtains, LEDs and greeting writings. Christmas 2021 reignites the city's economy and offers the first record: there will be 30 kilometers of streets (over 200), decorated thanks to the contribution of 14 sponsors who responded to the Municipality's tender by presenting projects to illuminate commercial districts and streets at the same time in the center and on the outskirts. And if in the heart of the city the kilometers will be 12, in the rest of the neighborhoods they will be at least 18, a length never reached before given that in 2019, the last year without a pandemic, the kilometers covered by lights were 12 (10,5 in the center and 1,5 .180 in the neighbourhoods, less than half of today) for around 9 streets and last year only 7 (2 in the center and XNUMX in the neighbourhoods).

The other streets decorated thanks to the projects of the various neighborhood associations will then be added to the 30 kilometers of the sponsors who, until December 14th, will be able to participate, with their projects, in the Municipality's notice (available at this link) and receive up to 3 thousand euros in contributions, for a total of 75 thousand euros.

“We are delighted with this extraordinary result - declares the councilor for Economic Development and Labor Policies, Alessia Cappello -. The projects presented by 14 sponsors, compared to 4 in 2020 and 8 in 2019, reward a city that is experiencing a period of recovery in every sector, starting with the economic one, with attention to respecting the rules but with great commitment. Thanks to a fruitful and renewed collaboration between public and private we have managed to give Milan the image of the past and to overcome it given that we will have more illuminated streets and in more areas of the city. It is a message of beauty and hope that we want to send to everyone. Now - adds councilor Cappello - we hope that citizens and visitors will take the opportunity to experience and give impetus to the commercial activities of even the small shops that animate the neighborhoods and which have suffered the most in the last year. I thank all the sponsors who participated in the call by investing in our city."

Fourteen sponsors participated in the tender to illuminate the streets of the center and neighborhoods, reconfirming and rewarding the attractiveness of Milan. This is also a result never achieved before, not even in the year following Expo 2015: 2021 (14 sponsors), 2020 (4 sponsors), 2019 (8 sponsors), 2018 (11 sponsors), 2017 (8 sponsors), 2016 (10 sponsors) and 2015 (7 sponsors).

These are the sponsors and the illuminated locations in the centre: Dior (Corso Vittorio Emanuele, from Piazza San Babila to Piazza Duomo); Netflix (corso Como from Piazza Gae Aulenti to Largo La Foppa, Corso Garibaldi); Nivea (viale Monza, from Piazzale Loreto to Sesto Marelli); Unieuro (via Marghera); Ralph Lauren (via della Spiga), Galbanetto (corso Garibaldi, from largo La Foppa to via Anfiteatro), Discovery Italia (via Panfilo Castaldi and via Lecco); Nexi (via Piero della Francesca, via Poliziano, via Procaccini and via Canonica); Veralab (via Guido d'Arezzo), Giochi Preziosi (via Orefici), Montenapoleone District (via Montenapoleone, via Verri, via Sant'Andrea, via Santo Spirito, via Borgospesso, via Bagutta, via San Pietro all'Orto, piazza Croce Rossa ); Banca Mediolanum (via Dante, via Tommaso Grossi); Nhood Service (Corso Buenos Aires, Porta Venezia toll booths, Corso Porta Venezia), Urban Up Unipol (Corso Porta Romana and Via Confalonieri).

Added to the list is Hines - who did not participate in the tender - but who will support, in the same way, the lighting of Via del Gesù in the center and a location (in his case a school) in the suburbs.

The overall sponsorship is approximately 1,4 million euros.

In the neighborhoods they will be illuminated: via Saponaro, via Baroni, via Arici, via De la Salle, via Ornato, via Rotta, via Hermada and via Scrivia, via Don Bosco, via Rapisardi, via Fontanelli, via Griffini, via Guintellino, via Grazioli, via Traversi, via De Roberto, via Ripamonti, via Gallura, via Carli, via Padova, via Ceriani, via Fulton, via Acerbi and numerous via ad Affori, via Tartini, via Michelino da Besozzo, , via M. da Panicale, via Brusuglio and a stretch of via Forze Amate; Piazza San Luigi, Piazza Selinunte, Piazza Prealpi, Piazza Dergano and Piazza Bruzzano.

In addition to the streets and squares, the sponsorships will allow the lighting of some covered markets: Prealpi, Chiarelli, Montegani, Lorenteggio and Ponte Lambro. Thanks to projects supported by consortia of traders, the lights will also be turned on in the Wagner and Morsenchio covered markets.
