Milan, February 22 2023 – Milano MuseoCity, the event promoted by the Municipality of Milan in collaboration with the MuseoCity Association, which aims to enhance museums by promoting knowledge of their heritage, reaches its seventh edition.
From 3 to 5 March, Milan is transformed into a single, large, widespread museum thanks to the coordinated opening of over 110 public and private museums, large and small, in the center and on the outskirts - there are 38 locations located in the hinterland -, of art, history, science, design, which offer the public extraordinary visits, guided tours, exhibitions and special events, conferences and workshops, for adults, girls and boys.
The theme chosen for the new edition is "The Light of Museums", a theme addressed from many different points of view, which brings out one of the strengths of the event: its interdisciplinarity and its ability to intercept the interest of a vast public.

“Museums are not only custodians of memory, but are able to offer ever-new points of view on the history and culture of a community. MuseoCity invites us to look at the collections with different eyes, showing us new perspectives on the present and the future – declared the Councilor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi -. This new edition consolidates the collaboration between cultural institutions to create a synergy that promotes access to knowledge, creativity and innovation. Thanks to the involvement of over 110 museums, the widespread program that involves the whole city allows visitors to immerse themselves in a wide and heterogeneous offer, which ranges from visual arts to science, from architecture to design".

Among the many proposals of MuseoCity, "Secret Museum" returns, the path that this year develops among the 113 participating locations allowing the public to discover unpublished works or proposed in new ways. In this seventh edition there are 72 'secret' works disseminated, which will show the public the many declinations that the theme "The Light of Museums" can take.

On the occasion of the event, two special exhibition projects will open at Palazzo Reale from 3 March.
Until June 4th, on the main floor of the Palace, the exhibition “At the Viceroy's house. Eugene of Beauharnais in Napoleonic Milan", an in-depth analysis of art, taste and fashion in the Napoleonic era in the environments of the court of the Viceroy of Italy. For the occasion, at the end of a complex restoration, the Centerpiece commissioned from the great Roman mosaic artist Giacomo Raffaelli for the banquet in honor of Napoleon and his coronation as King of Italy will be extraordinarily displayed in the Sala delle Cariatidi.
Until April 2, in the Princes' Apartment, the exhibition “TRE-DI-CI. Looks at the museums of Lombardy" will tell the story of thirteen Lombard museums through the work of as many photographers. The exhibition is promoted by the MiC (Lombardy Regional Museums Directorate) and the Museum of Contemporary Photography (MUFOCO) with the Municipality of Milan - Culture, and produced together with Palazzo Reale on the occasion of MuseoCity.

Also at Palazzo Reale, in the Conference Room, the conference "Other Worlds are Possible" will be held on Saturday 4 March, curated by Anna Detheridge, during which a pool of intellectuals, researchers, humanists and scientists will intervene around the recently approved definition of museum from Icom.

Several institutions are present for the first time at MuseoCity: the Art and Science Museum which debuts with a laboratory on the use of various wavelengths to admire a work of art to discover hidden information; MUSA, the first University Museum of Forensic Anthropological Sciences for Human Rights in Europe; the visit to Franca Valeri's unpublished collection, at the Accademia dei Filodrammatici; the MusAB - Brera Astronomical Observatory Museum which inaugurates a new visit method in Augmented Reality.

A further novelty of this edition is the "Dialogues" initiative, which will allow some Milanese institutions to welcome works from other Lombardy provinces into their spaces, according to specific affinities. A showcase that has the aim of broadening the number of participants in the three-day event in Milan from a 'network' perspective.

Among the special projects, the PAC proposes “Discorivolution. You Got to Get In to Get Out”, a three-day exhibition born from the research of 50 Polytechnic students that reinterprets the international clubbing scenario. At night the exhibition is activated by a series of site-specific installations designed by the students and animated by the musical events of Le Cannibale, transforming the PAC into a nightclub for 72 hours. Furthermore, the night visit to the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum, illuminated only by the imposing light installation created by iGuzzini; a 5-stage bicycle tour among the museums of Città Studi; the possibility of reaching the MUMAC – Gruppo Cimbali coffee machine museum in Binasco and the Kartell Museum in Noviglio with a free shuttle upon reservation departing from Milan; the extraordinary opening of the archives of the "A. Bertarelli" Civic Print Collection at the Sforzesco Castle, a space normally closed to the public; the evening opening of the Cenacolo Vinciano.

For girls and boys, during Milano MuseoCity, the Aquarium and Civic Hydrobiological Station offers a guided tour to discover the changes in underwater life in relation to light; the Corrente Foundation presents the laboratory “The Atelier of colors and light”; STEP FuturAbility District, with the "Program a robot" laboratory, aims to make young participants understand how to program an automaton.

To facilitate travel, in the name of sustainability, the MuseoCity Association collaborates this year with Cityscoot, the electric scooter sharing service, with which an easily accessible museum tour has been created and marked on the map of the Cityscoot app .
