A new series of theatrical shows dedicated to children in the evocative spaces of the Monumental Cemetery

Milan, November 20 2019 – Sunday 24 November appointment at the Monumental Cemetery for a new series of theatrical performances for children aged 8 to 13.

The “Monumentale 4 kids” initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Milan and created by Fondazione Milano, which has long collaborated with the Department of Digital Transformation and Civic Services for the cultural valorisation of the Monumental Cemetery through the free Sunday appointments of the “Museo open sky".

The new project chooses the language of theater to bring young people closer to a place rich in art and memories, which in 2019 welcomed over 100 thousand visitors to its avenues. “Monumentale 4 kids” stages the stories of the characters who made Milan great, many of whom are buried and remembered at the Monumental Cemetery and whose stories are just waiting to be told.

Five free events, nine performances, two shows written ad hoc and performed by graduates of the 'Paolo Grassi' Civica Scuola di Teatro with the musicians of the Claudio Abbado Civica Scuola di Musica.

The first appointment is Sunday 24 November at 11.30 am and 15 pm. The show “Dare I say: Providential!” will be staged in the evocative spaces of the Monumental Cemetery. by Luca Rodella with Giuseppe Palasciano, Sara Zanobbio and music by Roberto Dibitonto.

Two seventeenth-century actors burst onto the scene with the sound of verses: he sanguine and overbearing, she cautious and in love with him. The impossible task is to create an immortal work, which narrates the Italy of the humble and oppressed, with its landscapes full of hope and fear of God, and then also the crises, the plagues, the popular obtuseness, some virtues... too much stuff for two charlatans! Perhaps Providence, with the help of the theatre, will leave the two with the illusion of an unexpected marriage, but it will certainly pass on the great subject to a more competent, literate and immortal future author! A taste of Manzoni's The Betrothed in a light and fun way.

The event will continue on Sunday 15 December with repeat performances at 11.30am and 15pm.

Entrance to the shows is free with reservations required by writing to projects@fondazionemilano.eu.
