Milan, May 25 2022 – The exhibition program of the Municipality of Milan for the years 2022 and 2023 was presented today at Palazzo Reale, with some previews of 2024.
As always, the programming inhabits the various exhibition venues: not only Palazzo Reale and PAC Pavilion of Contemporary Art, but also all the spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions in civic museums such as the Aquarium, Museo del Novecento, GAM Gallery of Modern Art, Castello Sforzesco , Mudec - museum of cultures, Archaeological museum, Boschi di Stefano house museum, House of memory and Palazzo Morando | Costume fashion image. The Steam Factory also becomes part of the exhibition schedule, with a series of exhibitions ranging from comics to sculpture, from contemporary art to architecture.

Palazzo Reale resumes its great narrative threads with a series of dedicated exhibitions:

  • to photography, with great artists such as Oliviero Toscani, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Gabriele Basilico;
  • to the retrospectives of the great protagonists of the history of art of all time: from Hieronymus Bosch to Max Ernst, from Giorgio Morandi to El Greco, from Edvard Munch to David Hockney to Francisco Goya;
  • at the frontiers of contemporaneity, with exhibitions by Bill Viola, Grazia Varisco, Ruggero Savinio and Michelangelo Pistoletto;
  • to sculpture, with Francesco Somaini and the large exhibition on Michelangelo's three Pietàs in the Sala delle caratidi;
  • to insights into particular historical periods, such as the exhibition "Beauty and Ugliness in the Renaissance" and those dedicated to Andrea Appiani on Napoleonic Milan and reality painting between Milan and Venice.

GAM follows an exhibition design that goes in two directions: on the one hand, the study of its own collection through research tools and focus exhibitions to delve deeper into the authors who are the protagonists of its permanent journey, such as "Pompeo Marchesi. An artist's collection for Milan "; on the other, the dialogue with the contemporary, design, photography and other artistic languages - such as the solo show that in 2024 will be dedicated to Joseph Beuys - which is intertwined in its rooms with the works of the collection.

The PAC continues its path of research into contemporary languages by exploring international realities, such as Japan and Argentina, and dedicating a solo show to the art of Yuri Ancarani.
