Monumental. The theater festival dedicated to children is back

Saturday 19 September double appointment with "Monumentale 4 kids", to tell the youngest about the history, art and memories of the largest open-air museum in the city

Milan, September 17 2020 – After the suspension due to the health emergency, “Monumentale 4 kids” resumes, the series of free theatrical performances for children aged 8 to 13 inside the Monumental Cemetery.

The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Milan and created by Fondazione Milano, which has long collaborated for the cultural valorization of the Monumental Cemetery through the free Sunday events of the "Open-air Museum" exhibition.

Over three days - Saturday 19 September, Saturday 3 October, Saturday 17 October - there will be five free events with two shows written ad hoc and performed by graduates of the Paolo Grassi Civic Theater School with the musicians of the Claudio Abbado Civic School of Music: protagonists the creative spirit of Bruno Munari and the immortal work of Alessandro Manzoni.

The project chooses the language of theater to bring young people closer to a place rich in art and memory, which in 2019 welcomed over 100 thousand visitors to its tree-lined avenues.

“Monumentale 4 kids” stages the stories of the characters who made Milan great, many of whom are buried and remembered at the Monumental Cemetery, and whose stories are just waiting to be told.

The first appointment is Saturday 19 September at 11 am and 30 pm with the show “Tutto gli che prima non c'era” by Luca Rodella with Paola Campaner, Giuseppe Palasciano and music by Roberto Dibitonto. Thanks to the creative spirit of Bruno Munari we discover how even an otherworldly world is yet to be created, in a fantastic journey among the tombs of the Monumental, among music, colors, shapes and doodles. The kids will be led into an afterlife to be imagined and invented, because fantasy is everything that wasn't there before, even if it was unattainable.

The show will be repeated on Saturday 17 October at 11am and 30pm.

The show “Dare I say: providential!” will be staged on Saturday 3 October at 15pm. by Luca Rodella with Giuseppe Palasciano, Sara Zanobbio and music by Roberto Dibitonto. Two seventeenth-century actors burst onto the scene with the sound of verses: he sanguine and domineering, she cautious and in love with him. The impossible task is to create an immortal work, which narrates the Italy of the humble and oppressed, with its landscapes full of hope and fear of God, and then also the crises, the plagues, the popular obtuseness, some virtues... A taste of Manzoni's The Betrothed in a light and fun way.

All events will take place in compliance with safety protocols and will be confirmed even in case of rain.

Entrance to the shows is free with reservations required. Given the limited number of places available, we accept the booking of only one companion for each child.
