Milan, May 27 2022 – Music and memory come together in the splendid setting of the Monumental Cemetery. On Sunday 29 May, starting from 10am, the musical band of the local police of Milan, directed by Maestro Giorgio Poli, will perform "Notes of memory. Open air chords".

The initiative is part of the Week of discovering European cementeries (WDEC), aimed at promoting and enhancing the great artistic and cultural heritage preserved in Europe's historic cemeteries.

The concert program will open with the official march "Nobis urbem commendant" (NUC), composed by Maestro Marco Luca Capucci for the tenth anniversary of the band's activity, performed for the first time in May 2012. The title of the piece is also the motto of the local police of Milan, "They entrust the city to us". The musical composition develops through sound suggestions that recall the moments of the day experienced by the officers on duty, starting from the initial mentions of the sound of sirens.

The closing will instead be entrusted to the hymn "Du, Hirte Israels", a heartfelt prayer by the Ukrainian composer Bortniansky, who lived between the 18th and 19th centuries.

Representatives of the municipal administration will participate in the event, with free entry while places last.
